DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO THIS IN ONE DAY IF YOU SHOW UP AFTER 10AM! You will be stuck in the wilderness with no light. Those river crossings can be scary in pitch black darkness.
My Fiance and I left the parking lot at 1:30 pm and made it to the hot springs by 5pm. It was beautiful, but we didn't get to fully enjoy it because we knew we had a dreaded hike back to the parking lot that we still had to make. We ended up leaving the hot springs at 5:30pm and didn't get to the parking lot till 915pm. We got stuck crossing rivers in pitch black darkness. So again, I don't recommend you attempting this after 10am. We are in relatively good shape too. In total It was about 20+ miles of walking.
Next time we're camping out along the way or leaving super early in the morning. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend it 100%. These hot springs were beautiful. Just wish we had more time...
Read moreThis place is definitely worth the hike! I'd recommend an overnight stay because it would be difficult to make a round trip to the springs in one day. Just let your shoes get wet because there are way too many crossings to take them off each time.
I stopped at the springs during my 5 day hike on July 4th week, 2018. I hiked to the Meadows and then came down-river on Middle Fork trail. I reached the Jordan Spring on the afternoon of my second to last day. It was an incredible relief to get off my feet and into warm water. The scenery was amazing and the people I ran into were super cool. I think the long hike weeds out the day-hike-city-folk.
I highly recommend hiking the Middle Fork between Jordan Springs and The Meadows. It's much less traveled than down-river, near Bear Creek and the shear cliffs / rock formations...
Read moreWe camped at the lower Scorpion campsite the night prior and started hiking at 8am. It took us until around 12:30 to arrive at the springs. As of September 2022, parts of the trail is washed away and overgrown. One should download Alltrails.
The hot spring was warm, and quite refreshing to dip into once we arrived. There were people backpacking nearby but it was not crowded at all. Took us around 4 hours hiking out.
As for the river crossings, sandals and socks seems to be the correct option (oddly enough). The socks dry really fast and prevent chaffing from the sand in the sandals. Just bring an extra pair in the car.
The river crossings were strong but doable for anyone attempting a 15+ mile hike. Also, one doesn't need that much water if you have a Sawyer or Grayl to filter.
Finally, don't emerge head...
