A great trailhead with easy access to the Gore Range Trail. Following the gore Range Trail to the left of the Rock Creek Trailhead allows you access to Kettle ponds which are picturesque :-) if you go straight on the Rock Creek Trail you can get to boss mine and right on the gore Creek Trail will take you to Boulder Lake. There's a lot of beetle kill in the forest but you can see a lot of new little trees popping up :-) there is parking at the end of 1.5 miles of bumpy dirt road that's somewhat run it out and one would probably want decent clearance on their vehicle to get up there. There's also a small amount of parking right off of the main dirt road if you don't want to venture up the one point five miles of questionable Road.

This is a very enjoyable hike with beautiful scenery and a well maintained trail. Our hiking guide said it was 1.5 miles from the upper trailhead parking to Boss mine, but it’s more like 2.5. You walk along a ridge past some beautiful meadows. Some of the area is shaded and damp so be sure to bring bug spray. I would have given it 5 stars except for the 1 1/2 mile 4WD road to the upper trailhead parking lot. It’s doable with a 2 WD passenger car but you will have to take it very slowly and it will tax your suspension.

The road leading to the TH and Gore lake were grossly crowded with people just desperate to get away from town only to caught up in a sea of "Jerry's". Opted for a hike to another lake in the area.. AMAZING! GPS clocked just over 26mi and 4,800ft in elevation out and back, with a little exploring. The mosquitos were some of the worst that I have experienced in the lower 48. Enjoy the view!
