My husband is a Lewis and Clark expedition fan and we went to the monument to show our respect Srg Floyd. The monument is nice but it's located in an area of town that is not kept up very well. There are a few signs to read that give interesting information about the expedition. One was almost unreadable due to scratches on the fiberglass sign. There are a few benches to sit on overlooking the water...and industrial buildings. It was pretty hot when we went and there isn't a lot of shade so we read the signs and the multiple plaques on the monument in memory all the people who were involved with getting the monument read, and then left. It was nice to visit but is definitely a quick stop kind of place. Small parking area but there...

This monument to Sergeant Floyd, of the Corps of Discovery lead by Merriweather Lewis and William Clark, is very well designed and superbly maintained. One can not miss the obelisk on the hill from I-29. It's easy to get to and provides a unique look at the history of the expansion of America. One thing that stood out to me was the use of the correct United States of America flag on the hill. As you can see in the photo attached, and you will see in person, the flag flown at the time of this expedition is the only one to have fifteen stars and fifteen stripes. Another neat aspect of this location is the ability to view three states at one time. You can see Iowa, Nebraska and...

The entrance to this monument is off of old US Highway 75. There is an upper and lower parking lot. The lower parking lot has bathroom facilities access. There is also a small picnic shelter, and other open their picnic tables in the lower parking lot area. Behind the monument, to the west, there is a short trail to a scenic overlook of the Missouri river. The monument is handicapped accessible; however, to get right up to the gates surrounding the monument, you will need to go up six steps without a handrail available. The monument is not handicapped accessible in the last 10 feet extending outward from the...
