I love Hoodoo ski resort. I’ve been going for years and I’ll continue doing so. The staff are so incredibly kind, knowledgeable and friendly. The runs are so fun and well made. There are also so many different options and side runs to take along the way. I also love that so many of the runs are great for challenging your skills but not too challenging for fun. The blacks are really a blast and not as death inspiring as I expected when I took them for the first time. They have a park for practicing tricks and different skills, but I haven’t been to it so I can’t say much of it. It looks pretty alright at the least. The only thing that I struggle with in regard to the runs is that most of them aren’t as long as I would hope for. The longest run is a green from the peak and while it’s very nice, fun and provides an incredible view, it’s more of an easy chill ride, which is fun as well I just wish more runs were nearly as long. One of my favorite aspects here is the night rides. With plenty of lighting and late closing time, the night rides are such a fun experience and give a different riding adventure than during the day. The atmosphere in the lodge is great and family friendly and has everything you’ll need for your day long visit. I also love the historical photos and equipment strategically placed around the lodge. It gives a sense of history, familiarity and comfort. The dining area is my favorite of all other resorts so far. It is cozy and yet large enough for so many people all at once. The cafeteria is much better and has more variety of food and drinks than other places I’ve been to. The food is also pretty good. I’m always happy with my experience. I love that there is two floors of seating and fantastic views from more than one side. They also provide a bar on the upper floor. I haven’t tried the bar out yet, but if it’s anything like the rest, I’m sure it’s great. The gift shop is well stocked and has more space and options than other places I’ve been. The staff in there are also so accommodating! I had a gigantic blowout in my pants from a fall that created an almost full leg window to the arctic temperatures and unfortunate visualization of my spandex shorts that definitely at that point, due to rising, looked like my unders. Needless to say I needed new clothing. The ladies in the shop were so kind and so very helpful, even bringing me options based off of my preferences. Then helping me with other things I was looking for in the shop. Though they didn’t have everything else I was looking for, they made sure I was well taken care of and were so kind to compliment the way my final clothing choice looked on me. That alone, gives them an upper rating in service and making me want to return. I don’t need rentals anymore as I have my own board and gear, but when I did and for the friends that I bring who need it, the rental process is easy and pretty painless. Sometimes it can be a bit of a wait but that’s when the line is long and the room is packed. It never takes way too long though from my experience and the mountain is worth it. My only other downside here would be that we can’t pre order tickets as you can at willamette pass. It would be nice to get them in advance and if doing so could take down the price some as well, as Willamette does. It’s not too big a deal but would be a good touch. I do like that we don’t have to scan our passes each time though as some other resorts do. I also very much live thrifty Thursdays. It’s nice to have that price cut every once in a while. Over all the staff are incredible as is the rest of the hoodoo experience. I would recommend to anyone looking for a fun snowboarding, skiing or ski bike experience.

I skied Hoodoo on a bluebird spring-like day at the end of the second week of March 2021, after having skied Mount Bachelor the four prior days. Having driven by Hoodoo on my way to Bend, and being an advanced skier, I had very low expectations for the mountain, and only went there because I was introducing two young lads to skiing and thought I would be on the easy-rider lift with them most of the day. Fortunately for me, my pupils for the day took to skiing like ducks to water, and after two hours with them I was able to explore the rest of the mountain (except the west-facing terrain under the Hodag chair, which wasn't running that Friday). I'm a lifelong skier and my favorite flavor is "steep & deep," but when I can't find that I'll take steep and skiable. So here is the big surprise about Hoodoo, Hoodoo has plenty of steep for a small mountain! In fact, if you are an advanced skier, it has plenty to keep you smiling and returning day after day. I would actually argue that this is perhaps the best 1000' vertical mountain I have skied in the US, and as someone who currently lives in the mid-Atlantic (sad, I know) I've skied a lot of small mountains. My first run off the top of the mountain came down somewhere between Crater and the face, which is a huge wide-open above timberline-like area that is largely east-facing. It is reasonably steep and fantastic, you could ski just in that area all day long and be happy I am sure. Hoodoo's trail map doesn't show this well, by the way. Look at the mountain from Google maps or do a map image search. This small mountain has 360 degree skiing! Check it out, I know that I will be returning the next time I visit Bend. I had a lesson with Matt this past Thursday for Level 1 Ride. I want to just say that my experience with the Hoodoo Ski & Ride School as well as with Matt was nothing short of amazing, especially for my first-time snowboarding!

To begin with, I arrived incredibly late and instead of making it a big deal, my lesson was just pushed to a later hour. And I count my lucky stars because I don't know if I would have had my lesson with Matt.

Instead of waiting for my lesson, my friends that I was with recommended we hit the bunny slope. We got on the lift and I immediately fell. It took me probably 20 minutes to get up. I started going down the hill and about halfway fell again. Another 20 minutes and help from my friend and I finally stood up. Started down the hill again and fell again. After ten minutes I unbuckled the straps and walked back to the lodge.

I walked to the lodge, grabbed a chair, and just sat. I couldn't breathe, I was so exhausted. After a cup of soup and some water, it was time for my class. I walked over to the ski school feeling completely defeated and met my instructor, Matt. That changed almost immediately.

His ability to instruct me on how to ride blew me away. Firstly, he broke down the techniques to their most basic and palatable forms so much so, I was able to pick it very quickly. He was also repetitive without sounding condescending. It was mantra-like! by the time I had my last run on the school slope I was so excited that I was even able to stand up. We moved to the bunny hill and I made it all the way down the hill. I still wasn't able to stop, so I bailed and rolled my ankle. I've never hurt myself so badly and been so happy at the same time. Matt rode to me and helped me to sit up. He was so encouraging. I wish I would have had more time and taken the Level 2 class with him, right then and there.

Thank you, guys, so much and I can’t wait to see you next season… maybe on the blue or black slopes and being able to stop. Matt,...

I booked my reservation, through recreation.gov, on 7/16/18 for Reservoir Campground for one day this coming weekend. I was under the impression that there were sites that were somewhat near the water. According to Hoodoo's website and the forest services website, both show pictures of campsites with water, a map with water, etc. Today, 7/17/18, we found out that the water at Wickiup is down 40% and that the campground isn't near water anymore, it is near swampy grasslands, confirmed by the forest service as well. I called the recreation.gov folks and they said that they cannot issue a full-refund unless Hoodoo approves it. I called into Hoodoo and I was told by Jennifer that this would have to go through recreation.gov. I called back into recreation.gov and they said that no, they cannot do anything unless the owners of the campground initiate it. So, suggestions for Hoodoo...1.Be sure your staff know the correct information. 2. I would highly recommend removing the satellite image that shows the campground next to a lake (when the water is low and and not near a lake) and remove the pictures that clearly show that it is next to a lake as if I was visiting Oregon and reserved this spot I would be highly disappointed when I arrived. Or, put something on the site that says during low water times, this campground is not near a lake. 3. Maybe work with folks a little more. I'd love to camp here but, not this weekend when it will not be near water when we planned to take our sons to swim and fish. Perhaps, provide an option to switch the reservation to a later date by providing a voucher (this would need to be coordinated by recreation.gov but they are open to doing this). This has plenty of campsites open so it isn't like I am putting anyone out. This really makes me not want to support Hoodoo, we've always had a good experience but this...
