We made our first trek into the state of Georgia in search of a waterfall and hike. We found both here!
We parked at a pullover about a mile from the actual waterfall and walked/hiked to the waterfall. It was more like a walk than a hike. I just wore tennis shoes. The trail was foe the most part an easy walk. The trail is level and well maintained other than being a little muddy due to previous rain the day before.
Along the walk, you'll see a covered bridge - which is currently condemned due to erosion, I assume maybe from Hurricane Helena, but I'm only guessing. You'll also see a man-made damn structure, which I'm not sure what the purpose is for.
Arriving at the waterfall, you'll see a beautiful waterfall certainly worth the walk! But if you don't want to walk to the waterfall, you can actually drive to it. Not far from this waterfall is a parking lot and picnic area. To get to this pva by car, you have to follow the GPS directions, which will lead you through a golfing community and down a dead-end road, which leads to the waterfall.
We walked out to the falls, then went back to our car and drove to the picnic area by car for a picnic lunch.
All in all, a nice walk and...
Read moreOne of my favorite roadside overlooks. You drive directly off the side of the road, enough parking for at least 8-10 cars easily. While this overlook is beautiful at any time, on a clear day, you will be wow-ed at how many mountain peaks you can see and if you get the chance to plan/visit for the sunset, I HIGHLY recommend it. The pinks, yellows, oranges, and purples paint the most picturesque view and make for wonderful photos. Take a few minutes to breathe in the fresh mountain air and gaze at all that the views have to offer. I see so many folks just stop for a minute and for a few photos and they don't actually look at the views with their own eyes for very long. So, please take some time to soak up the natural beauty for which this overlook was created to help showcase. You will NOT...
Read moreThis was so beautiful. My son and I stopped. It's off the main road.... I should I say the only road. Now I will warn people that are not used to mountains. Though it may be a smaller mountain, the drop off and the roads can get tricky. The locals were beeping at us for going 5 miles over the speed limit. But I didn't feel comfortable going faster than that myself. Anyway, It's definitely beautiful and there was a waterfall nearby. We went really early in the morning. While you are driving up this mountain to sky valley, you will literally go into north carolina and georgia, climbing up the...
