This was our first time in a proper swamp, and it did not disappoint. We went up and down the river and got to see the flora and fauna that inhabits this area. Everything from snails to birds to raccoons. I think this is where they made the show "Swamp People", but I'm not 100% sure. The scenery was eerily similar to the movie "The Princess and the Frog". We didn't really need bug spray, even in the swamp, as the water is moving and it doesn't really have too many mosquitoes.

Amazing tour. Our guide Tray was very knowledgeable and funny; he made the experience very enjoyable. He even gave us some interesting Cajun recipes. We learned about the history of the swamps and how the ecosystem works. Highly recommended. PS: for all the eco friendly people I would recommend this one as well because they only feed the animals fat free marshmallows so the animals don't get lazy and dependent on them so they keep their natural habits.

Beautiful place to kayak or go boating. There's a lovely connector between Pearl River and the old Pearl River called Casey's ditch which is magical in the summer and spring and beautiful in the winter. The river can be a bit choppy and can have strong currents especially when windy so be sure to check the weather and the tides before going out

Captain Bishop was awesome: great personality, very knowledgeable and THE corniest jokes! He made the trip fun and a learning experience. We saw an alligator less than 10 minutes in the water. He also showed us an aerie with baby hawks - what a great! And finally he took usbto see a family of javalinas and their cousins, the raccoons. Too fricken' hilarious.

This was a great excursion that I would recommend to anyone of any age. I would also recommend going with Captain Bishop as he is full of fun facts and shows respect for the environment...

Great area to check out when the water level isn't too high. There are a number of trails off the main nature trail road (I think on maps it's Oil Well Road).

Make sure to bring bug spray and tell someone where you are going before you leave and tell them when you plan to be back.

Anything can happen and you don't want to be stuck back there with no one knowing your whereabouts.

Also be sure to check in and out either at the WMA entrance on old hwy 11 or via the LDWF Self Clearing...
