I’m not sure how I’m just finding this park but it’s a great place to visit. It’s a $3 charge per car. As usual I focused on the trails but there is quite a bit going on here. Clearly some historical buildings and a working horse farm of some sort. I didn’t explore this side yet. When you pull into the park you can continue to go straight towards the houses and barns but I turned left for the pavilion and walked the brown trail. The pavilion had public restrooms and a cool fireplace under the pavilion with picnic tables. I’m guessing it’s the brown trail due to all of the piles of horse poo. So heads-up people do ride their horses on most of the trails. You should watch your step but they are big piles so they are hard to miss. It was a nice short trail with a few beach areas and scenic views of the river. Some of the views are elevated with a steep drop so keep an eye on your kids. Great place to go on a weekday for a quiet peaceful walk along the water. There is also a a kayak launch pier/dock. There were quite a few chained up so I assume you can rent them during the summer or bring your own. There were 4 other trails I will certainly be going back to walk those as well. There is a second entrance that appears to be for hunters only but just past that was also helwig field which is for aero modelers. It was closed but looks like a small runway and a pavilion. All in all a pretty cool place with great water views.

This is a lovely little spot. The river trail in particular is the kind of walk I think my elderly father could manage. The views of the river are really satisfying. Less satisfying: finding the trails. We would have liked to walk more than we actually did, but figuring out where to go, where to park, and where to find the dang trails was a big fan for us. We interacted with one member of staff/volunteer team. He was nice and pointed us to the river trail, but didn't work too hard at telling us how to find the other trail we asked about, where we might want to park for said trail, etc. We will go back, but we will be better prepared with a trail plan.

Greenwell State Park has become a fan favorite for photo sessions. The beach, the lush greens, and historic buildings are just amazing. Not to mention the beautiful horses that you are able to see, and the goats and pigs on the grounds are always a fan favorite. From prom, to family, or graduation photos, there's so many possibilities for portraits here at Greenwell! Get your 30 minute session for $100, 20 images, 1 outfit, with an online gallery. Or...need an hour?? $225 for 60 minutes, 25+ images, 1-2 outfits, 1 location, online gallery. Fall or Christmas Mini’s!
