This is a review for the boat launching area and the lake itself rather than the park facilities (which I didn't use). The boat launching area is actually not on Krauskopf Rd, which is the official park address, but on the opposite side of the lake on Long Lake Rd, south of the playground area. It's not well marked, so you have to know where to look. The boat launch is for non motorized boats only, and it's perfect for kayaks. The bottom is sandy, so it's very easy to put in there, but it's not muddy, so it didn't feel gross. It was also clean with no broken glass or trash, so I wasn't afraid to go barefoot. There is ample shade and parking, as well. I do recommend using a bug repellant, because mosquitoes are very active on shore. As for the lake itself, bugs were not a problem while I was out on the water, and, because no motorized boats are allowed, it's very peaceful with calm water. It's also pretty shallow, maybe 10 - 15 feet in most places, so the water gets warmer faster here than a lot of the other lakes in the area. I would also recommend this lake for paddle boarders because of the calm water. The only reason I deducted a star is because of the MANY...
Read moreThe boat launch parking area was a bit small, but no motorized vehicles are allowed on the lake and so it was sufficient. The the area was lovely and natural. After I was done kayaking, I walked around the entrance point and it stayed pretty flat and shallow. It would be a safe spot to go kayaking with kids, at least getting into the water. There were rangers moving around the different areas of the park. That also felt safe. The water was a little harder than some lakes to kayak, and I had to work pretty hard to paddle against the wind. That was great for me, but might be harder for someone that's looking for a relaxed trip. I talked to some people that frequent the park and they told me that it is good fishing. They recently caught catfish. If you like to kayak and fish, you'd need an anchor for sure, because you don't sit still on top of the water if you stop paddling. There are bathroom, playground, and picnic areas on both sides of the water. It's very quiet. I only saw one house on the whole lake and not too many people visiting the park. The lake is relatively small, and took about 45 minutes to paddle with several stops to take pictures. The water was warm...
Read moreThis park is the perfect place to have big family outings, great fishing and swimming and very spacious. I have been Baptized in this wonderful lake because it just seemed perfect to due so. The downside is that in the summer time the part closes at 8:45pm. There's still a lot of daylight left and I was told I had to evacuate from the premises due to it closing for the day.
If you go there, make sure you go early enough so you have plenty of time to enjoy the park. I wasn't aware of the park schedule. I guess I know now huh. Lol.
Oh yeah... There's a really big snapping turtle roaming that lake. It'll literally come up to you in the water. So be aware 👀👀 I gave it a fish that I caught and it went away. It's...
