What a beautiful winery, off the beaten path! The staff here is lovely and very well educated and the grounds are absolutely beautiful outdoors and indoors - lots of hand crafted wood pieces, antique lighting, and art - I loved the milieu. They have seating indoors near the bar and fireplace as well as upstairs indoors and out on their deck with heaters, overseeing their property and the water! They also have a few dogs and goats on property for kids to see and feed. This is a VERY family friendly winery - lots of families coming with kids and taking advantage of the outdoor space to play outside and visit with the animals. They offer minimal food - charcuterie boxes, chocolates - best to bring in your own food, which most people do.
For the wine itself, they have a lot of different types and they’re growing most of their grape varietals on property. They offer four 1.5oz wine glasses for $12 as their tasting flight offering and about 10 other varietals that you can order by the glass or bottle ranging from $10-$12 per glass and $24-$30 per bottle. If you’re with a big group, a bottle would probably be your best bet! Their wines have won a few medals and awards, and it’s just such a cozy, fun experience for groups, families or couples -...
Read moreWonderful winery. One wonders what it would be like when watching a wedding in the warming woom.
ok also you see that tasting card? I didn't grab a pencil so I took notes separately, but when I finally redeemed it there were people around so I chickened out of trying to cram all of the below into the "notes" sections. (given my handwriting: this is for the best)
Riesling: 5/5 Dry among rieslings. never met a wine of this varietal i haven't liked, this one moved me to fill out this sheet. Hope the rest are good, otherwise this will be awkward.
Petite Sirah: 5/5 dry is right, and im noticing low tannin. Usually secondary fruit flavors in reds want to be highly tannic as well, but raspberry and cocoa work well here.
Zinfandel: 2/5 jammy. They cant all be winners, but I'm kind of married to the bit at this point.
Malbec: 3/5 its fine. Plum and leather are true, dry is very true. Not a lot going on, i wonder if aging will help.
all the wines go by a brand name rather than varietal name, and rather than tell you the vintage they seem to subscribe to the "fresh wine" school of thought. Usually I'd consider those to be red flags, but I'm willing to give both a pass here - if it works it...
Read moreUpdate: Summer 2023 We’ve been meeting family and friends at the winery nearly every Saturday or Sunday we’ve had good weather. It’s such a gorgeous place to sit in the shade and sip wine slushies, nibble on cheeses, and enjoy great conversation. I love introducing all my friends to Worthington Vineyard!
I’m absolutely thrilled this winery opened up in Somers. The property is vast and beautiful, and the owners generously open it to the public. There’s abundant outdoor seating from the top deck of the Warming House (tasting room) to the grounds below and smattered throughout the trees and terraces. There are lawn games, patio heaters, trails, and water views. You can buy flights/glasses/bottles of wine, wine-mixed drinks, and an alcohol-free slushy, soda, and water. I saw several bento boxes of cheese and crackers, but I also saw people with their own snacks. I’ve only tried the Worthington White so far, which was delicious! The staff is friendly and the place is clean and cozy. Plenty of parking here, too! I look forward to seeing how this winery develops in their commitment to quality and the community as well. What an asset...
