In August 2022 my wife and I visited some friends in Somerset, PA. We had some free time while they were at work so we visited some local points of interest, one of which was the Kimberly Run Natural Area.

At the trailhead there is a large wooden sign showing the entire trail system which contains several trails of varying lengths. The trails interesect at various points which makes it easy to complete a shorter or longer hike. We hiked the "White Trail" which is about 1.6 miles, although my GPS track indicates we walked 2.5 miles. I suppose that includes the White Trail plus an out and back path from the parking lot. There are trail maps at the trailhead and the paths are well-marked.

The trail is very flat and is composed of mostly packed dirt. Even though this is a very easy trail, hikers should still watch their footing as there are portions of the trail cris-crossed by exposed tree roots and some small embedded rocks. There are several elevated, wood plank walkways over wet portions of the trail, and a couple of bridges where there are stream crossings. We encountered three or four areas where the mosquitoes and bugs were a bit pesky, so you may want to consider bug repellent. We didn't think to bring any and we survived without any bites by simply waving them away with our hands.

This was a pleasant trail system and if I lived in the area I would visit these...

This is a beautiful place for relaxing walk and visit with mother nature. It's on the smaller size for serious hikers, but if you need a place to clear your mind and heal your soul, this is the place. This was my first visit even though I've passed it by many times. Once you're under the forest canopy, it feels magical. It's almost like being inside a huge building but with all nature sounds around you. There's a stream that runs through, and I could sit by it for hours...

A well maintained trail system. This trail area is easy going. A few rocks and some roots, but for the most part it is a walk in the park. Walk all the paths available. It will give you different scenery and a chance to see the wildlife. Functional pathways made of wood to take you over some muddy areas. Along the way you can stop on one of the many benches just to take in the beauty. Bring a lunch and have a picnic. The trees provide the needed shade from the...

Great rolling hills hiking/walking area both under tree canopy and out in open fields. Have outdoor programs for adults and children. Great for dogs. Located close to Somerset.
