This is the remnants of an old Civil War earthen wall fort. If you do some research, you will find that it is one of many designed to protect Washington DC from invasion by the Confederate army. The Potomac Heritage Trail runs through the parking lot so it is easy to pick up in either direction. The trail is in good condition but some of the smaller trails off of it can get overgrown in the summer. It is a great place to go for hiking and the fort is interesting if you like historic sites. The walk down to the Potomac river is scenic. I have included some pictures of Pimit Run near the bridge and the Potomac river at Chain Bridge.

Fort Marcy is one of multiple locations for Defenses of Washington. It has the potential to be a very good park, but it needs alot of work. The picnic tables are in very poor condition Signs in bad condition. Trails have branches across them. The highlight to the walk was two deers.

Decent park and trails but the downside is the trails mostly border the road so all you hear is traffic. There's a few sections that are really nice with a waterway passing though, but that's about the highlight. There's also a small historical section as well near the parking area.

Quiet and very little people go here. Picnic tables are run down and very little maintenance on trials or other remnants of the civil war. If your looking for a place to get away and just think. This place isn't frequented a lot but don't expect much or facilities. Small birds and animals are very busy here and you will get to enjoy a little piece of nature. A great place to park along GW Parkways and go for a walk down one of the trials or run. Nice little place away from the pavement and steel of the...

Nice little outdoor escape from the city, though you can hear cars on either Chain Bridge or the GW Parkway from any given spot. The sign indicates a circular trail around the old fort, but we never could find a trail that didn’t dead end. There are no trail markings to speak, so it’s a bit of a guessing game. It’s a good place on a hot sunny day because it’s all wooded and shade is abundant. Our little boy enjoy the cannons and had fun on the...
