This is the remnants of an old Civil War earthen wall fort. If you do some research, you will find that it is one of many designed to protect Washington DC from invasion by the Confederate army. The Potomac Heritage Trail runs through the parking lot so it is easy to pick up in either direction. The trail is in good condition but some of the smaller trails off of it can get overgrown in the summer. It is a great place to go for hiking and the fort is interesting if you like historic sites. If your looking for a place to get away and just think. This place isn't frequented a lot but don't expect much or facilities.
