Hanzell Vineyards — Attraction in Sonoma

Five star service!!! My friends and I biked here from Sonoma square during a warm day, and got the the gate before we realized it was a pretty steep hill. As we were about to walk our bikes up, Nicole from Hanzell drove by and saved us, giving us a lift to the top of the hill. We had an amazing tour by Tony, where he went out of his way to provide so much detail on the history of the caves, the biodynamic farming in the fields, and the geography of the landscape. His tour was absolutely amazing!! He even rode us around to tour the property and opened each of our car doors every time we stopped to get out. He answered literally every one of our questions, and we had a ton!! Not to mention he loaded all of our bikes in the back of the SUV so they wouldn’t be abandoned at the bottom of the hill, and drove them up to the parking lot to keep them safe while we did the tour. Tony at Hanzell Vineyards gave us a phenomenal tour, truly amazing. We scheduled a tour for Thursday afternoon and ended up on a private tour for our party of the winemaking facility, wine cave, and tasting room with a beautiful view of the vineyards. As wine lovers but not super knowledgeable in how vines are grown, how the land makes a difference, etc, this was truly amazing. Tony knows SO MUCH and we peppered him with our billion questions. He really took the time to teach us about winemaking in general and what makes Hanzell unique. What considerations come into play when making wine, what the tech does, how you blend wine from different vineyards or from different barrels, what age of vines or weather does to the wine.... Seriously we learned so much. And man, I'm sold on their techniques because that wine was DELICIOUS. Couldn't stop appreciating the aroma of that Pinot but the Chardonnay was also divine.

This place is a gem in Sonoma! Highly recommended if you are visiting Sonoma and would like to do some wine tasting and learn about wine making. We scheduled the Hanzell Tasting Experience one days before our visit. We went on a Monday morning and it was definitely a highlight of our Sonoma trip! Our guide was so knowledgeable, engaging, and patient. I learned so much from her about the history of Hanzell and all the wonderful sustainable practices that Hanzell is doing on the vineyard. We went on a week day, so there weren't many tourists. The whole tasting room was ours! Plus, you'll see all the cute animals living on the vineyard, too. A cat joined us for wine tasting! The tasting room and the vineyard were BEAUTIFUL. We enjoyed the gorgeous view of the mountain and the vineyard with some glasses of high-quality wine.
