An interesting walk through the woods 🎶 to grandmother's house we go 🎶. Multiple trails. You can go uphill, both ways, literally! Well cleared! A lot of fallen trees and "I am Groot" roots. A tiny waterfall, small bridges, streams and with benches to sit. 🐕 Dogs are allowed but they have to be leashed and you have to clean up after them. There is a small park 🏞️ and playground. Outhouse that was in good shape. Picnic tables and grills. Maps posted and printed out as well. There are two parking 🅿️ areas. The first is where you pull in. It's small and free 🆓. The second 🥈 is where you have to pay. There are different rates for age and in/out of state. I don't know if it's the "honer system" or they will have people collecting later on. We paid per vehicle. Have cash available! I'm going to try to come back and explore more. We did the Shady Stroll, Porcupine and part of the River Run trails. We tried the Loop ➰ but my daughter said she had had enough walking! Bring bug 🐛 repellent! There is a warning about ticks! Ground is muddy after a rain 🌧️ so go...
Read moreVaughn woods State park has a large variety of New England trees and has an old feel to it. There are three cemetaries hidden away in the woods and an old foundation from a late 1600's home. It is both a walk back in time and a walk through a small slice of old forest. You can see the hamilton mansion by the edge of the river from one of the trails. The hamiltons owned a ship making company and most of the ships at the time in northern colonies were made right on the banks of the Salmon falls river in the Vaughn woods area. Great for a short half hour hike or an hour if you want to explore...
Read moreBeautiful, scenic state park/hiking trail along the picturesque Salmon Falls River! Can get a little muddy in the spring, but overall a great spot to take a stroll with the family or your pup 🐶. My 3 year old loved that there was a small playground at the entrance to the trail head as well although she got bored quickly as there was really only one "bumpy slide"🛝 as she calls it, along with a set of monkey bars & two swings. The only thing that was kind of disappointing was the amount of dog poop bags left both along the trails and by the playground. Just my personal opinion, but if you cant be a responsible pet owner and clean up after them, you probably shouldn't have them 🤷♂️. We definitely be back to explore the trail...
