Once upon a time, the south end of Hunting Island was filled with private cabins. Over time, beach erosion took away the foundations and the road. What is left is a long line of broken blacktop and toppled trees. You will see a speed limit sign, some fire hydrants, the old power line running through the trees, and maybe some broken tiles or plumbing. I wouldn't take small children to this end of the beach. The walk was the least enjoyable part, especially if you are bringing a lot. It's about 7/10 of a mile one way to the closest beach entrance. Most people don't walk very far and it's crowded.
