Bill's Old Bike Barn is a one of a kind museum and tourist attraction that should not be missed. The museum consists of a man's collection of motorcycles and other vehicles, as well as vintage items, antiques, and modern collections of items. There is surely something for everyone to look at here.
When you arrive, they hand you an audio device that has some interpretive information, but I took away one star for lack of information on some of the displays. Some bikes or displays had numbers that you can hear a story from the owner on the audio device with a 1-2 minute explanation. However, there are so many thinks that I stood and wondered what it was or the story behind it That got me me frustrated that I didn't always know what I was looking at.
The second star came off for what I thought was a lack of safety in the building. To get to the upper floor, most stairs were very steep spiral staircases, no exit signs, and lack of modern safety features that you would expect in a building that is not that old.
I would not let my negative statements deter you from visiting. It is well worth the $10 entry fee. I spent much more on other unique places. I actually added a star back on from the value this place gives. I was there 3 hours, didn't see it all, and will...
Read moreMy buddy had planned for Bill's Old Bike Barn to be a stop on our route across Pennsylvania. Although I was half tempted to keep on schedule and continue to ride, I am absolutely grateful we stopped. The museum includes many many motorcycles, military history and then a small "city block" of show rooms of smaller collections that you would find in America or Europe. We spent about two hours having a great time with so many neat conversations about the show pieces , mini collections and cycles. To be honest, it was better than the last couple Philadelphia Art museum trips because of the mood we were in. This isn't just for motorcycle enthusiasts, but anyone that just appreciates American culture. It's that cool. While speaking to a couple employees, we discovered we were talking to the owner, Bill. What a pleasant gentleman and great conversation. We appreciated his time to talk with us. Look, if you and your friends want to do something different that everyone will appreciate, check this museum/ private collection out. Also, a few mintues away are a couple places to eat and gas up your ride. Support these private places before they disappear. We are going to...
Read moreWhat an amazing place! Bill had a vision when he was young and decided he shouldn't wait to get started. I'm thankful that he didn't wait! I cannot imagine he'd have gotten all of this done if he'd waited! Pristine motorcycles from the earliest days, memorabilia of every kind, something for everyone! Bill was standing at the door when I arrived, welcomed me and set me up with a listening device to accompany my self led tour. The recordings are all made by Bill. It's like you've got him leading a personal tour but you get to decide the route!
One of the most amazing things is the size of the place! When I rode up the driveway it didn't look very large. But the way it's laid out inside, it feels huge! The best place I can compare it to is Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley. And just like WTT, the bikes are in running condition! I asked Bill what percentage of them run and he said 99.9%.
This is not a stop you should see "if you're in the area" but a destination you should add to your bucket list! Don't let the name fool you, there is something for everyone here, young or old. Bill works the weekend shifts so if you want to see him make plans to visit...
