My family and I toured Wonderland Cave on our recent family trip and it was a terrible experience. The tour guide was attempting to be a comedian instead of providing details about the cave. His description of the massive spiders in the cave, and how they had bitten other tour guests, sent my daughter into a panic attack. While I tried to reason with my little one, he made no attempt to let her know there were no spiders in the cave (or apologize for frightening her)... he just moved on with his other "jokes". We had to leave the tour as there was no way that she was going in a cave with large biting spiders. My husband and other daughter stayed on the tour. The guide continued attempting to scare young guests... at one point he growled when my 7 year old wasn't looking and then told her that there was a bear in the cave. The rest of the tour was tales of his experience battling rattle snakes, the various vehicles he has owned and "picking on" tour guests. My husband said that he would move the flashlight around like he was going to show them something about the cave and then commented on how he could get everyone to follow his light. If someone asked a question, there was facts about the cave provided but that was about it. My husband and I have been on many cave tours around the country and really enjoy seeing and learning about caves. This was by far the worst cave experience that we have had… I would...
Read moreAfter following nearly an hour of signs spread out between Deadwood and the Wonderland Cave, the kids were SO EXCITED to see the cave. My wife checked the reviews and checked the hours, and we are ready for the experience promised online. We passed maybe 10-15 signs and several said open. Once you start to follow the signs, you lose internet connection, SO do your homework before you go. The drive in is AMAZING. The best views in the area! The hours were list as 9:00 to 5:00. We arrived at 4:15. Plenty of time to get tickets for the tour. As my wife and 3 excited children rushed to the ticket building, I had to use the restroom. VERY clean restrooms for this being out in the middle of nowhere! As I met back with my family, They informed me they were told that the last tour had already left for the day...... 26 signs on the way in, and not even one sign said tours stop at early. PLEASE POST ON YOUR WEBSITE AND SIGNS that you stop tours early! We will NEVER make that drive again. Caves are caves and we will spend our time and money on a different one next time. Please do not waste your vacation time on the drive! Seeing only the bathrooms is not worth the time you will spend looking for the place! Especially if your are an hour or less before closing time! I would leave no stars, but then I can't warn people about...
