The Nickajack cave wildlife refugee is a little surprise hidden spot with a fantastic view of the Nickajack dam lake and the Nickajack cave, and the entirely lake hill scenery. From a parking spot what is very accessible, you have a five minute walk over a wooden walkway to the cave. When you reach the endpoint of the walkway, you have a free overview over the cave and the lake. The cave itself is locked off for people with boats and you cannot walk into the cave. The cave itself is underwater, but before the Nickajack dam was installed, it was an entirely dry cave. While you walk over the wooden walkway, you also will pass a small waterfall with a great rough rock formation. The waterfall only works during wet weather and in the winter. Great rock formations and smalls spots with access to the lake for fishing or swimming.

Did the guided kayak tour. It was pretty cool got to see the bats and osprey, the other birds had already left. A little pricey but cool experience glad I did it. If you can't afford the guided tour there is a lookout spot in the park you can watch the bats, but you won't get all the extra information about the area and animals. All of the photos I posted are unedited.

A great little area to sit and relax, there's a swimming area in the lake portion and if you take the trail to the right of the lake, you can follow it down to the cave entrance! It's a better view from a kayak, but like most very dangerous things, society has a fence up for protection!!! Do Not Enter the CAVE!!!!!!! Also found a cool picnic area towards the back of the parking lot up top, it sets up in the woods a bit on a concrete pad!! Gonna use it in the future! Good fishing just down the road, plus the Southside of the Nickajack Dam entrance is just down the road as well, if you enter on this side of the dam you can see the water flow outlets, really cool to see when water...

We went and kayaked out to watch bats as they excited the cave mouth at dusk, and we got to see a lot of cool critters! There is plenty to look at. We had dinner at a very scenic picnic table looking out on the river, then paddled out and were able to get reasonably close to the mouth of the cave! The cave entrance is protected from the public, which I appreciate as a supporter of conservation and someone who understands human nature.

It was absolutely a pleasure to visit, and even the areas we didn't pay much attention to(there's a beach!) seemed well taken care of. Take a trip and...
