This is my playground. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My playground is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My playground, without me, is useless. Without my playground, I am useless. I must play on my playground true. I must enjoy more than my peer who is trying to outplay me. I must outplay them before they outplay me. I will …
My playground and myself know that what counts in this game is not the hours we spend, the noise of our laughter, nor the joy we make. We know that it is the memories that count. We will make….
My playground is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its equipment, its spaces, its surfaces and its boundaries. I will ever guard it against the ravages of neglect and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes, and my heart against damage. I will keep my playground clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will …
Before God, I swear this creed. My playground and myself are the defenders of my joy. We are the masters of our recreation. We are the saviors of my happiness.
So be it, until victory is joy’s and there is no...
Read moreThis spot is getting better all the time. SSP has been working over the last few years to add baseball fields and a playground to the dog park and running/biking trails that are already there. It's $20 for an annual pass to the dog park, which is basically a LARGE open, mowed field. They have waste bags stationed all around which is nice. I have seen a water fountain for both people and dogs installed, but have yet to see it working. ?? Also have a section of the dog park fenced off for smaller or shy dogs. Portable toilets are available. Lovely views of the Mississippi. Opposite the river is an active railroad however, which can be noisy, but is also cool to see. Small engine planes land at the nearby St. Paul Municipal airport. You can walk across Concord on the pedestrian bridge to get to Simon's Ravine which is DREAMY - my family's favorite place in SSP! Only thing I wish there were more of at the dog park would be shade trees. They have a few small ones around the perimeter, but if it's a hot or windy/cold day, being out in the open field is not that pleasant. Of course, my dog ALWAYS loves it, so...
Read moreThis is a fascinating park that hasn't been in existence for that long. Before it was a park, it was a city dumping ground for trees and other debris. Now it's a large grassy open space with off-leash dog parks, ball fields, and trails. Its proximity to the Mississippi, St. Paul Downtown Airport, and a Union Pacific swing bridge and railroad yard provides opportunities to see barge and boat traffic, trains being assembled and moved, and airplanes taking off and landing.
Paved trails in the park connect with the Robert Piram trail to the north, which takes you to Harriet Island, the trail through Kaposia Park to the northeast, and the Mississippi River Trail to the south.
There's also a playground, many benches, and picnic tables. This park will appeal to you if you like wide open spaces with a lot of things...
