This place is GORGEOUS. I never thought I'd be into birdwatching, but they have SO much more here - beavers, turtles, etc. And they're very comfortable with humans so they'll get close and are used to cameras!
The other day I went walking along the main trail and passed by a turtle laying her eggs! It was SUCH a beautiful and humbling experience. I tried to stay back and quiet so as not to stress her out, but I managed to get a BEAUTIFUL video before leaving her to it. And when I came back around she was done and resting

Read moreSo we went here on a fishing trip with Justin Wiggins who is involved with DEEP. We have been doing these free classes and trips for 2 years. Not 2020 because of Covid-19. Anyway the classes are very informative and the crew is wonderful. It’s all free and tailored towards the kids. Every time the kids catch fish. Sometimes we take them home and sometimes we release. They provide everything to fish (bring your own food). It’s so wonderful. The kids love love to learn and they love to teach and keep you involved.... Read moreNice hiking trails, some in meadows (think sunny) but most in the woods (more to my liking). The long trail along the river is very nice. No trail markings or blazes (surprising) but the free map at the visitors kiosk (a short walk from the parking lot) is very helpful, along with a lot of other pamphlets and birding info. FYI there's no Visitors Center & no dogs are allowed. Several brand new picnic tables out and around the trails. An easy and wonderful way to get out into nature and do some bird watching.
