We visited on a Sunday afternoon in late June 2025.

There was only 10 parking spots in the parking lot and we ended up parking on the street (Fernald Point Rd). We were not the only ones parked on the street.

The trail head is right off the parking lot. It's a 1.4 mile loop with just a little bit of elevation. But because of the steps and rockiness I'd classify it as a moderate.

It's fairly low effort trail for great views. It's also on the less busy side of the island and National Park. It was probably the busiest of all the trails we had done that day.

The trail does loop back around by the beach area which was cool and the kids had a lot of fun exploring there for a bit.

Overall great hike and good for many ages and abilities. We would gladly do this one again. I did not see any bathrooms at the trailhead or on the trail in general so keep that in mind...

This was a fun hike with kids. The views I could have imagined would have been amazing but I was there on a foggy day. The trail was marked pretty good with blue stripes on the rocks and trees. I give moderate because in wet conditions it can be a little slippery on the tree roots. I was able to carry a 30 lb toddler in a backpack carrier without any problems. My 12 and 15 year olds loved it because of the rock steps making up a lot of the path on the way down. We chose to do the trail counter clock wise summiting the mountain first. This then ended the hike relatively easy. The beach was nice for the kids to play and...

It’s a decent 60 mins hike. We started at the wrong side but if you started from the correct side, it would be a step hike up and slow hike down. Overall about an hour depending on your speed. It may take longer if you walk slow. Also you can only do the small loop since the long loop is closed for peregrine falcon conservation as of June 2023. So unsure about how long the long loop will take but the short loop is a good hike! Beautiful mountain tops and less traffic! You can probably have the mountain too for yourself for a good period of time! We were here for a while and no...

We followed a firelane out to the cove. This was an easy grade with plenty of width, family friendly. The beach was lovely with pebbles and Loons in the water. We attempted to hike further north around the cove, but the granite block jumble was too difficult. We did the Flying Mountain trail back to the parking lot. It was very well marked with blue blazes, difficult in very short sections, but very well laid out with granite steps or natural granite features.
