We love this arch. It’s a beautiful place to simply hike around if nothing else. If you are into mountaineering, it’s a fun climb up the east side. You can repel down the large amphitheater face. And, if you know what you’re doing you can swing from the ledge too. Driving instructions: just off US 191, take a dirt road for a few minutes. Follow the road to see the west side of the arch. To see the East side, take a left along the dirt road and follow until you see a bar wire fence. Head west along the fence until you arrive at a big rock. Hike around the rock southward to see the arch. This parking area is where you can begin climbing. 4x4 or AWD is recommended.

The climb is located eastern rib ( 38°16'30.37"N 109°24'11.85"W). Extremely fun, and easy climb. Just as stated, 3 pitches to the summit, and accurate information. All solid bolts with the exception of the second bolt on the second pitch is slightly loose but unfortunately didn't have the equipment to fix. Just bolts on third pitch anchors, no chains or rings. A 60m rope runout on a double rap on the third pitch, but it's walkable to pitch 2 anchors --make sure you close the system. Climbed on 06-22-2018. Didn't see any rattlers on this climb --though their holes are everywhere.

Of the beaten path just a little, but a really cool detour. We weren't entirely sure what to expect, but it was bigger than we thought, and different from other landmarks around (even though it's still an arch). There were rock climbers there while we were visiting, and it helped give us perspective of the size of rock we were looking at. Pretty impressive, and will make this a frequent detour as we travel south.

As a 76 year old climbing wannabee, this was absolutely the most thrilling experience of my life. I trained for Looking Glass for 6 months, walking up staircases in multi-level parking garages; and I am glad I did. The arch is spectacular, so conquering it makes you feel so special. The free rappel was just the greatest 2 minutes ever! I did not have the nerve to do the swing. Maybe this year; although I am thinking this is something you only do once, to preserve magical memories of a...
