We started down Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway and stopped at Bridal Veil Falls, Spearfish Falls, and Roughlock Falls.

Bridal Veil Falls (60ft) has a small parking lot across the street. You can get a great photo from the overlook on the platform.

If you have time, bring water shoes to hike down the stream to get to the base of the waterfall. If you’re facing the waterfall then go down on the left side of the platform and come back up the same way. It has huge boulders that create “stairs” pathway.

We had ages as young as 4 and they were all capable of this hike. Our parents in their 80s stayed back to watch our stuff.

The water is extremely cold at first so be prepare for that initial shock. You can balance your way across the log but it’s slippery and so are the rocks.

Short distant to the base and it’s...

Awesome place to stop off and rest for a bit while enjoying a spectacular view of the falls. Unfortunately for me getting some rest wasn’t part of my girlfriends plans because she decided to start climbing to the top of the falls and obviously I couldn’t let her do that alone. Long story short it was worth the view and experience to follow her up there however it was a task to say the least. I wouldn’t suggest doing this yourself because of all the loose rock, and once you’re at the top the vegetation on the backside of the falls gets really thick, the ground is wet and spongy and very slippery. Also the climb back down is a much more intensive and delicate situation then the climb up was. Nonetheless we turned a quick road stop view of the falls into a 3 hour adventure that I’ll...

The falls can be viewed from a viewing platform just off the road. They're gorgeous, but it can be a bit busy! There is decent parking close to the viewing platform. if you're feeling a little adventurous, you can climb down a small incline and cross a stream to get to pass that will lead you up to the falls. lots of people usually take this path, so it is quite clear. There are usually a few people at the base of the falls taking pictures or playing in the water. There is some hiking around the falls, but it's generally pretty steep if you want to...

Bridal Veil Falls is a quick but beautiful roadside stop along the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. There’s limited parking available right next to it, and a wooden viewing platform is built just across the road, making it easy to stop, see, and snap photos without much effort. Some adventurous visitors were trying to get closer to the base of the falls by crossing the stream—but be prepared to get your feet soaked if you plan to do that. It’s not a long stop, but definitely worth pulling over for 2 minutes to take in the view.

Out of the three falls in spearfish canyon this one was by far my family’s favorite. You can see it from the side of the road and you can climb down and get right in it. I got my shoes wet but my kids (11, 13, 15) were able to balance on the fallen trees to avoid soggy shoes on the way there. You can’t swim there, not enough water at the bottom to do so. But you can stand underneath the falls. A bonus was when we got out of the car we saw mountain goats, a mom and baby. Binoculars really helped us see them it was a highlight.
