Spencer State Forest — Attraction in Spencer

We took a ride from Western MA and were looking for a place to eat our picnic lunch. We spotted the sign for the Spencer State Forest and thought it would be perfect place to stop. We were disappointed! The place was deserted; restrooms were locked; trash outside the restrooms on the ground and no trash barrels in sight! In fact, trash was stuffed in a charcoal grill! There were quite a few of these grills in this area, but no picnic tables to be found. Pond looks as though it's becoming quite stagnant and no people were swimming in it. We had a blanket so we put it down; ate our lunch and headed out of there! Very sad to see that this beautiful spot can't be used by the folks...

Small park area with waterfall, short trails, stream, pond. Very nice and serene. Swimming isn't allowed any longer, but you can still find a quiet spot to picnic or laze away a summer day. That is until the off road motorbikes come racing through. I am fairly sure these vehicles are not allowed on the trails at this state forest, bit there are no rangers or police watching over this location at ANY time. I have never seen police presence here. I love it here. I've been coming here for most of my life for birthday parties or just to get some fresh air with my kids. There's so much space, and it's all kept so clean and beautifully manicured. There are nice, wide, well maintained trails, there are plenty of places to run and play, or to fish, swim, hike, picnic, even barbecue. There are grills and picnic tables and lots of shade available. It's just a beautiful area in...
