I've made two trips to Dominion Raceway over the last year. Both were SCCA sanctioned HPDE/TT weekends on the road course. While I truly enjoy the track, especially the infield section of the track, I have left each of my weekends at the track feeling as if the road course is merely an afterthought to the NASCAR oval. I have heard promising reports that ownership is interested in hosting SCCA road races, which is promising and tells me they do care for it. However, several glaring issues need to be addressed before that can come to fruition.
Flag stations, the flag station situation at the track is...lacking, and quite honestly a safety hazard. Every other track I've driven places flaggers in elevated and VISIBLE gazebo style stations. Dominion has either open to the elements cement stations, or clubs have to pick areas and set up tents. In some cases, flaggers have far to great an area of responsibility, in others the placement is such a driver would be unable to see their flags.
The pavement. I believe the track was completed in 2017, and the asphalt is clearly not to the standard of the other major track in our area, Summit Point. Under the bridge heading into turn 12, the pavement is quite uneven, compounding matters, it's right in the braking zone for many cars. More concerning, this past weekend, tar patches in the run from turn 2 to turn 3 were pulling up. These types of situations are frankly unacceptable in my opinion.
I do truly enjoy this track, but a little more care in some areas could be a game changer. The infield rhythm sections of the track are fast and fun to drive, especially when you get them right. I'm encouraged by what we've heard about the track listening to club recommendations and hope like with Summit, our SCCA region and Dominion can enjoy a long and fruitful...
Read moreWhat an amazing experience! These guys are tip notch! No waiting. They take you into a classroom for training, very informative! If you've already bought the package to do a ride along, you get to do that, but they give you a chance to have that awesome experience. Everything is clean, safe, and super organized. There were so many people working there. Dillon did a great job teaching the guys how and what to look for when driving. He was serious but cool. Not bad to look at either! Jaun was the next guy who got everything organized and the guys in their proper vehicles. He also was fun and made it upbeat and yet safe. My husband got to ride with a driver and then... Jaun put him in the Ferrari 488 GTB. The look on my husband's face before and after the race made any doubts I might have disappeared. He had the time of his life. I can't even express how happy my husband was and still is. This experience was totally worth what we paid, and it took my 2 son's and their spouse's and me some time to save up and do this for this very hard-working over the road selfless husband and step-father. He deserves this and so much more! Thank you, Extreme Experience. You made our guys'...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed with my first experience at the Groove. I let one of my girlfriends convince me to spend $50 to get front row tickets at the Magic Mike Girls Night Out show, expecting the best view of the show (aside from being on stage). Unfortunately for us, a few of the security and staff girls (one in particular) kept standing up in front of us and blocking our view of the show. The ladies around me complained several times and asked her to move, but she always ended up back in front of us again. Complete waste of money!
I could understand if they are there for safety to help women up and down the steps to the stage, but she wasn't even doing that during the second part of the show where there were some heavier women coming down the steps and could have used the help. If they were supposed to be security, I seriously doubt they could do much to stop anything from happening. The performers could fend better for themselves. The gates were a good idea and sufficient to keep the audience in place.
Additionally, we were asked not to take pictures, and yet the staff was right there in front of us with their cameras. VERY...
