Oh the actual place is rustic and quite lovely. The people were all very friendly and the merchandise was reasonably priced. It was a bit small to sit 300 people in, everyone was quite packed together. You just weren't rubbing elbows a lot of people just tried to fold themselves up the best they could. I watched an interview that Rory did with Paul Overstreet that spoke of how he had almost single-handedly created a new genre of faith and family. That's why I purchased my tickets to Paul's concert as soon as they put it out on Social Media. When we arrived early (because seating is first come first serve) but it was a very cold long wait. I am disabled and can't walk or stand a long time and was fortunate that I was able to sit on a bench. Paul Overstreet did give each person his Christmas CD and it was a nice surprise. However the show was not family-friendly and did not seem to fit the genre of faith and family. Because I could not walk far I missed the free tour of the schoolhouse and truly I would have much rather just paid to do that than sit through songs like "It takes a lot of liquor to like her" which I believe started us off. I guess I am too faith and family oriented. I would only go back if it was BILLED as a gospel singing. That way I would be sure I was in the right genre. Again the place is wonderful. People are very kind. It was very nice. Just be sure the entertainment is what you want to see and your visit will be great. It felt very homey and it is...
Read moreThe Homestead Festival far exceeded my expectations. Every possible aspect of homesteading was represented, and the knowledge and wisdom of each speaker (educator) was through, AI breeding to worm farming, meat processing to herbalism/health, from community to resilience. I was able to learn from some of the people I really look up to in regenerative agriculture, specifically Joel Salatin.
The music! Oh my goodness! So good! As you entered, a lovely group of talented gentlemen welcomed you with incredible music. The lunch tent had various musicians performing. The big stage had some of the best performers I've seen in a while. The variety and quality of music was worth the ticket price alone.
Ladies and gentlemen... Shopping! The quality and variety of local, handcrafted, artisan goods, and farming were out of this world. There was something for everyone.
There were numerous vendors and craftsmen holding demonstrations for you to watch and learn from. I really enjoyed learning about rendering tallow. This particular vendor was extremely knowledgeable and answered a lot of questions. The children loved the wood carving and weaving demonstrations. They were mesmerized by it.
You don't need to have a homestead, garden, farm, or ranch to find something you will enjoy. It's a family-friendly environment, and it felt like a big family reunion (even though I didn't know anyone there) without the stress. I am looking forward to attending...
