Unacceptable Behavior from Staff – Won’t Be Returning
I'll start with this and you can read the details below - I honestly hope he learned something today. You can’t just talk to people however you want—especially not women in front of their kids. You never know who someone is connected to or what they’re capable of. Next time, he might mouth off to the wrong person.
What should have been a fun outing with my daughter turned into a terrible day due to the rude and completely unprofessional behavior of one of the staff members—an older man working the register probably around his 70's and his name was Steve.
We weren’t sure where to get our wristbands, since I didn't see an attendant at the stand so I decided to stand in line inside the building. As I stepped back outside to check the stand (where we got the wristbands spring break week), this man whistled at me and my daughter from behind the back door like we were animals, then shouted, “You need to pay your entrance fee!” His tone was aggressive and completely disrespectful. There was no reason to speak to us that way—we were simply trying to figure out where to go.
Then, when I walked back inside, the man started loudly making comments while ringing up another customer, saying I had an attitude and was being rude to him. At that point, I turned to him and said, “Excuse me? I didn’t have an attitude—you gave me one first, and now I do have an attitude” and told him I was trying to figure out where to get my wristbands from. And yes, this all happened in front of other customers.
Later, one of the owners did call me to ask how they could make it right, and I told him clearly: that man needs to learn how to speak to people with basic respect—especially women. That's one thing we DO NOT tolerate from anyone!
I don't know if they claim to be a Christian business, but this man’s behavior was anything but respectful or Christ-like. I saw something on the wall about a Lutheran Church charity something so I'm guessing they have ties.
Whether he talks to all women this way or something else was at play. But it felt personal, and it was completely inappropriate. I won’t support a place that allows this kind of behavior toward guests, especially with children present. Honestly, he needs...
Read moreDisappointed with Atkinson Farm's Berry Picking Experience ( 06.01.2023)
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
I recently visited Atkinson Farm with high hopes for a fun and fruitful berry picking experience. While the farm itself had its positive aspects, I was ultimately left disappointed by the lack of organization and the underwhelming berry availability.
Firstly, I must acknowledge that Atkinson Farm does have some redeeming qualities. The farm itself is pleasant, and the atmosphere is serene and peaceful. The setting provides a lovely backdrop for a day out in nature. Additionally, the farm is well-maintained, and the staff members were friendly and helpful.
However, the main purpose of my visit was berry picking, and this is where the farm fell short. Most of the berries were not ready for picking, which was quite frustrating. It appeared that the farm did not adequately monitor the ripening process, leading to a limited selection of ripe berries available for picking. This lack of organization was disappointing, as it detracted from the overall experience.
Moreover, I found the pricing structure to be quite steep. There was an entry fee of $3, which I consider reasonable for access to the farm. However, on top of that, I was required to pay $6.99 per pound for the berries I picked. While I understand the need to cover costs, the additional charge felt excessive, especially considering the limited variety and availability of ripe berries.
Furthermore, Atkinson Farm lacked additional activities or entertainment options. After completing the berry picking, there was nothing else to do on the premises. This resulted in a rather monotonous and uneventful visit, making it difficult to justify the time and expense of the trip. In conclusion, while Atkinson Farm has some positive aspects, I left feeling disappointed with the berry picking experience. The lack of organization and the limited availability of ripe berries hindered the enjoyment of the visit. Additionally, the pricing structure felt excessive, considering the underwhelming experience and the absence of other activities. I would recommend exploring other options for a more engaging and...
Read moreI recently went to Atkinson for the first time to see what they had to offer this past Saturday. I actually pulled in a little early as they don't open until 10am, but the young lady behind the register (I forgot her name...started with an "R", I think...Riley, or some such...ushered me in and did not act put out that I wanted to shop for goods before they officially opened. I appreciated that, although I would have waited for the regular hours without complaint as they are posted at the main road.
At any rate, I only went in to see what they actually have because I had time to kill and saw the sign out on the road, but when I saw all the wonderful, beautiful healthy vegetables on display just like I remembered old farmer's markets as a child, I HAD to buy something. I wound up buying a bunch of healthy looking red potatoes, a massive red onion, and yellow onion, some huge cucumbers, some heads of broccoli, and a MASSIVE head or red cabbage. Seriously, this thing looked and felt like a bowling ball...very dense and without blemish.
I bought a couple other small things but can't remember and was pleasantly surprised when the bill was like 13 bucks. I felt like I got a great deal on plenty of healthy looking produce. A real value.
Another young lady bagged my purchase for me while "R" rang up the sale and they both chit chatted with me and made small talk. The other young lady Ally or Elly or whatever (I'm horrible with names) was super friendly and responded with "Yes Sir" or "No Sir" and had a pleasant demeanor about her that led me to believe she had a reasonably good upbringing (good job mom and dad!) which I found so refreshing given a lot of the youth I see loitering around these days.
Anyhow, I'll be back, you should try it too...and read the signs. They say if you pick something, you have to pay for it. They also say stay in the designated picking areas. I wouldn't think that was a difficult concept!
And, no, I wasn't paid for this review or offered free black berries for a year or anything...just what I observed on that...
