William H. Kain County Park offers some nice features. There’s spacious trailer parking available for those bringing in boats, although the spots are not pull-through and can be somewhat limited. The boat launch is average in size, and there’s also a kayak launch assist system available—great if you’d rather not get your feet wet or use the actual boat ramp. Boaters are EXTREMELY friendly and patient here when it comes to waiting their turn on the ramp or offering a lending hand. One of the standout features is the extremely clean, wheelchair-accessible bathroom located right next to the launch area, which is a major plus. If you don't own a kayak, there's a rental station conveniently located nearby. The park does have a few small launch sites convenient for kayakers, canoes, and SUP located around the park; however those launch areas have rather dense vegetation in the water you would need to get through. Conveniently these tiny launch sites do have their own parking lot but do not have trailer parking.
The park grounds are free of trash, but one noticeable downside is the abundance of goose droppings on the grassy areas, which can be off-putting if you’re trying to relax by the water or have a picnic in the common areas. The common areas do have Pavilions with tables you can utilize if not being rented out.
The park also offers a beachy section where people can fish from and picnic. The park also has convenient trails throughout.
Noise here is one factor to consider. The proximity to the highway means you’re almost always within earshot of traffic, so it’s not the most peaceful experience. However, after a while, the highway noise becomes background noise that you can't notice.
Great easy going people make this park an enjoyable...
Read moreIt has potential to be amazing. It was a good hike for my son and I. Fishing...meh...but okay...(need a boat... even though there are some for rent)...then the experience would be stellar. It's basically clean (staff can only do so much if patrons are slobs & I had to pick up litter as a result) and seems to be a good place I can bring the family later on. Wasn't the "place for fishing" I was told it is, but I'm sure I'd eventually land something in the near future. STILL...it was a good time spent with my son 👍
UPDATE: 21st June 2022
Last season's fishing on both Redman & Williams was pretty decent. I have pics & video from some excursions with my son.
Presently, BOTH the lakes are drained (maintenance on Lake Williams Water Street Bridge & reports of invasive species, so it affects Redman, too) & it will probably be another 2 or 3 seasons before fishing will truly be decent again. I was told it's drained down 5ft (looks like MORE) but I truly hope the ecosystem can reboot itself & recover. People will HAVE TO BE PATIENT & let it "right itself" for a season or 2 before doing anything. That's just nature.
Hiking is still good as always. Picnicking is still a hoot & a holler.
UPDATE: Sept 19th 2022
My son had a hankering to go to "Catfish Cove" (a name he gave the waterway between Redman & Williams on George Street) & landed a 3+lb smallmouth bass! AweSOME😳😎🐟 Still a fun stop...
Read moreKayaking was fun! Reasonably priced, staff was okay.. gave really no communication just started walking to the dock with paddles, and we got the hint we should follow. Gave me a chuckle, but if that sorta things bothers you then maybe not the place for you haha. The send off kayak deck thing is SUPER helpful to get in and out of the water. Water is beautiful! Now my last tiff was the life vest smelt like a middle school boys gym bag… GROSS, I was in my car and the stench stuck to me like gum in an unsupervised childs hair…so either bring your own or smell like a decaying sock but overall will be back 100%… very chill vibes. Not a huge deal, just a little more communication from staff, and find a way to make them life vest not...
