Breathtaking vistas of the gorge and beyond. For a short and relatively easy hike for the area (I think it's a little over 2 miles round trip) the views are some of the best. Hiking out to the peak is obviously uphill, but honestly a pretty gentle slope until the last quarter mile when it starts to get steep. And the reward for your efforts is more than worth a little shortness of breath. Can be hiked in sneakers easily. The top is a great spot to camp overnight, or at least pack a lunch and spend some time at the top. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead, probably enough for 15 cars. This is probably my favorite short hike, I've done it many times and it...
Read moreBeautiful mountain with amazing views at the top. Perfect to watch a sunrise or sunset over the surrounding mountains. The path leading to the top on the north-east side of the mountain is well worn and easy to follow. The trail circling the south and west side of the mountain is very overgrown as of June 2020. There a few trees, which although low, would probably support a...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful views in the Smokies or Pisgah Forrest. Spectacular! When you get to the top, there are multiple trails to different vantage points. My favorite is to the left. Look for the narrow paths, too, that will take you closer to the edges for even better views. You might miss them if you're not looking for them. It's almost a mile up. Fairly strenuous, but you're not scaling boulders. It's an uneven dirt path zigzagging up. I stopped 3 times going up to let chest pain...
