Very interesting walk! It is a loop. This is probably the "main" attraction for the park. Make sure to grab one of the white paper pamphlets with the numbers that guide you on what to look at while you are walking on the boardwalk (available at the entrance - the staff will show you, they were very kind). There is a lot of things hidden in plain sight that I would have missed/not appreciated without reference to the paper. Set your GPS to this location (or the visitor center), as it will take you to the parking lot area nearby. If you think the conditions will be bad for bugs, they will be. Apply bug spray in the parking lot or they'll get you good.

Very enjoyaba trail with a nice overlook attached to it. Easily accessible from the visitor’s center - be sure to pick up a self-guided tour brochure (1 per family) for the trail! We saw LOTS of beautiful spiders from the trail. It started to get pretty hot and humid as we were finishing up around 11:30 am. Getting there right at 9am was a perfect time. We have a 3 month old baby - I had no problems baby wearing on this trail. As it got busier, we saw many families with young children and/or dogs. They ask bug spray be applied in the parking lot to be cognizant of the fireflies.

Despite part of the boardwalk being closed for repairs/renovation the trail is still perfectly fine if you come back on the slims trail. They have a whiteboard map (see attached picture) at the trailhead by the visitor center that gives you the alternative options. We used bug spray and didn't get bit. As long as you stay on the boardwalk and on the slims trail the spiders aren't an issue. I really don't like spiders, but as long as you get past the hoards of their webs by the visitor center you can make it.

My partner and I stopped here on our way to vacation in HHI. It was a fairly accesible hike and we loved stopping at each of the numbered sites to learn a bit about the landscape and history of the park. Definitely recommend bug spray and a water bottle!

We saw lots of families with strollers, young children, and animals, so I think this is a great beginner and family-friendly trail! Folks who use wheelchairs for mobility, like my sibling, would be able to do the trail (but it varies based on the width of your chair— I’d say no...
