This is a great park if you are willing to do a little exploring... The playground and baseball/soccer/softball fields are among the main draws, but there is a nicely paved walking/running trail around the circumference of the main park area. There are well kept his and hers bathrooms on site along with a water fountain for filling bottles. However, the real treasure is found outside the border of the main area... You can take a paved path over a small wooden bridge up into the neighborhood bordering the parks edge, or - even better - take the grassy trail on the far side of the park down the the creek. There are a number of small rapids and the kids can splash around (mine love to skip rocks). Just watch out for any "worms" or tangled lines left behind by the fishermen who frequent the spot to avoid a tetanus nightmare, especially if anyone in your party chooses not to wear shoes... I'd definitely recommend wearing some type of water shoe...
Read moreWe come to Smith Lake quite often for our kids' soccer games and flag football practices. It is a lovely park with walking trails that go back behind the park and towards some of the housing developments and Stafford Marketplace. There is a lake but no swimming or boating. It is pretty to look at. There is a playground in the center with restrooms next to it, which is nice they are so close. There are also several soccer fields and baseball fields and a couple pavilions. The only thing I dislike is you do have to drive through a small neighborhood which takes a little while to get there and then parking is usually a nightmare on the weekends when there are so many games being played. If toy go during a slower time during the week it is a great...
Read moreWe weren’t very impressed with this playground. The bouncy bridge is slippery, the walls on the triple slide are really short, and there is only one little kid friendly entrance (steps) and all the rest are more advanced (rock wall, fireman pole, twisted ladder thing, etc) but the playground itself is still more geared to little kids so I’m not sure why that is the case. I’d say this is too small for kids under 7/8 years old, if that gives you an idea. There was a good amount of seating for parents but not much shade. We just weren’t impressed, it’s OKAY, but we’ll just travel to fredericksburg and go to parks...
