As a child I spent my summers at my grandparents cabin, it was the most wonderful time of my life. I fondly recall the gentle waves lapping at the shore just a few yards from the bedroom window, it was the most soulful soothing sound, so peaceful & comfortable. We'd swim in the coldest water but it didn't matter we were kids, my brother and my cousins it was the kind of storybook old time movie childhood with inner tubes, fishing poles, laughter, hot dogs, marshmallows over an open fire, potato chips, hamburgers and the whole famn damily. No TV's, no telephone, no running water or electricity, an out house on the hill and for entertainment we'd either listen to radio broadcasts or Papa's 78's which only featured his favorite group, The Ink Spots. Every morning my Grandma would rise before anyone else firing up the gigantic wood burning cast iron stove.. it was huge and was adorned with brilliant yellow enamel, had a hot water tank, double ovens with warmers and 6 or maybe 8 burners that when going would take every bit of chill and dampness right out of the morning air. Waking up to Grandmas cooking was the best those were the days everyone of us kids jumped out of bed thrilled to see what awaited in the kitchen and what kind of adventures lie in store for a new day.
