Clean, Friendly, and Exceptionally Well-Maintained
I stayed at Lake Byllesby Regional Park in mid-August for two nights with my dog, and from the moment I pulled in, I could tell this was more than just your average RV campground. Everything was spotless, well-marked, and obviously cared for.
Check-in set the tone: an incredibly friendly and helpful woman at the office (wish I’d caught her name) welcomed me warmly, gave me the full rundown, and even offered to have campfire wood delivered right to my site. Another office visit later was just as pleasant — that consistency in friendliness really stood out.
I booked an electric-only site, but the potable water and dump stations were the nicest I’ve ever seen — clean, easy to use, and clearly marked. My back-in site was easy to find, with a sturdy picnic table, a spotless fire ring with a grate for cooking, and absolutely no trash in sight.
From my site, I could see the lake, but not the sunset itself — for that, I had to walk to a west-facing spot in the park. I’m glad I did. Taking Chase for an evening walk meant catching a truly stunning sunset after a light rain passed through.
The only downside? Flies — a rural reality near farmland and water, and nothing the park can control. Next time I’ll bring repellent.
If my site had been available, I would have gladly extended my stay. Cleanliness, friendliness, and a beautiful setting make this park a solid choice...
Read moreThis used to be a 5 star park, but the renovations they did to it this past year are horrible. There used to be a massive playground complex with a giant sandbox and picnic area. Now there's just one tiny playground that is fairly lackluster. The giant green field for tent camping and barbecuing has been replaced with RV pads, gravel backfill, and weeds. The reeds and plants that grew along the lake have been ripped out and replaced by grass. It's like the whole park is now designed for people who want to sit in their campers and do nothing else. It's bad enough that the water is too polluted to swim in; now the park's other charms have been destroyed, too. So...
Read moreBeautiful place, main reason I travelled here was to fish from shore near the dam, well it’s really not accessible at all. I saw some people who found a way down to get to the water but it was a Sunday and crowded already and it wasn’t even that close to the actual dam. Just an FYI. Other than that like I said it’s a beautiful area but maybe don’t have high expectations of you have to...
