The waves and the in the ocean like lake are absolutely breathtaking. The black sand beach, which is actually just a bunch of very tiny dark rocks, was quite enjoyable. Sadly, everything else is in disarray. The bathroom is an outhouse with a door that doesn't close. One side is locked off and you can smell the horrors that hide behind that locked door. Lastly the pavilion, is a room labeled changing room, with another door that doesn't close and looks like drug deals happen regularly in there. A maintenance shed that also doesn't close and an even more sketchy room with a door that has been removed and a vending machine that has been put inside and looks like it hasn't been turned on in years. In short use the bathroom before you come, but definitely come...

We actually loved it but we're mistakenly informed that they allowed camping. Even when we got there there were people camping. But we set up and went for a walk, came back to a note on our door telling us that camping wasn't allowed, and we had to leave, very sad, considering it is set up with fire rings and picnic tables. Definitely looked like a camping area. Also there were NO signs posted that said...

One of the ugliest "beaches" I've ever been too. In addition to the garbage that is lying around (including broken glass bottles), the stamp sands themselves can be considered the be a hazard to your health. Still a great spot to swim, walk the breakwall, and stargaze. BUT Breakers changed a lot since the last time I was there, 4 designated locations for bonfires and HUGE rocks creating a legit parking lot. No longer a free for all with bonfires. Lots of signage on the road in and at the beach itself.

A quite, little, secluded beach far away (but not so much) from monotonous life at Houghton. Perfect for sun bathing in summer, watch Aurora at night. The complete dark environment without any light pollution provides an amazing opportunity to observe milky way galaxy from this spot.
