The crystal clear kayak with LED lights is a must-do! I’ve done various kayak adventures and I've never done one like this - truly unique! Absolutely incredible trip that’s very physically doable for most people. We saw a lot of kids, older folk, and you don’t need kayak experience to fully enjoy this 100 year old limestone mine exploration. Crystal at the gift shop was friendly and helpful. Wesley and Bryson were funny, knowledgeable, and truly great guides.

My only frustration was with the initial receptionist when scheduling this tour. We initially tried booking with the Gorge Underground website and the date we needed was fully booked. We nicely asked if there was any way to make an exception. We joined the waiting list and the receptionist said she would check with her boss about guaranteeing a spot. Although we were advised we would get a callback the next day, no call came. We found another website and a company called SUP Kentucky offering the exact same experience for the date we needed. Great, we booked it! We then get a callback several days later from Gorge Underground saying their waiting list opened up. We advised we booked with the other company, SUP Kentucky. The receptionist laughed and said it’s all one company. I explained my confusion for the two different websites and how when we initially called and said we needed this specific date, why didn’t the receptionist just tell us to to go the other website with openings if it’s all one company anyways? I heard these two companies used to be competitors but have apparently recently merged into one. The company should consider making it more clear on a single website and assisting guests with fully understanding what is booked vs what has...

We did the “Delux” Crystal kayak tour . The Concept and area is very cool. What is not is the fact that we are from out of town, told less than 24 hours prior that we cannot wear shoes on the kayak and wool socks are recommended. Little too late considering we are already here. For the tour we get put with a guide that is very quiet and speaks through microphone and one quiet speaker .We are told to stay close so we can hear him then we get put with another group of 4 that has no kayaking experience . Their Kayaks were bouncing off of us constantly to where we couldn’t even paddle. My family and I had to pull back so we weren’t constantly being splashed by or hit by other kayak. 8 kayaks on this tour is way too crowded! So there for we couldn’t hear the guide at all , basically floated through the mine not getting to hear an ounce of the history of it all. What a waste. Waterproof Bluetooth speakers for the worker in the back would have been nice so those of us forced in the back could actually hear what was going on. Also it says it is an hour and 30 minutes, we were done before 1 hour . What a rip off for the $$. Definitely recommend a 100% private tour if anyone is serious about doing this. Otherwise not worth the $$.

Wanted to post an update - I was contacted by the company regarding our experience. They took the review very seriously , worked fast to resolve the issue and make things right. I am very pleased with their quick response and for taking it seriously. Best customer service I’ve ever...

Aug.6th, 2025, group at 9pm:

OMG! What an adventure, even being hurt. The tour guides were fantastic with a lot of knowledge and very easy-going. Signing in was a breeze and since she was a local resident, she provided great recommendations for great hiking spots. The water is calm and relaxing. The air was comfortable at 50-56 degrees, which stays constant at this temperature. Our whole group loved it! I definitely would like to return when I am not hurt. They were very accommodating to our group to help me continue through the tour because being towed by your husband was just as much fun. 😆!

FYI Tip: This attraction books up fast. You should plan this trip 1 year in advance prior to your trip in order to book the date and time slots you would like to go. We booked ours at 9:00 pm in August and still had a great a time. Unfortunately, this is an adventure you will not be able to just show up on the day you want to go and expect results. They informed us that is the worst part of their job is having to turn away folks that wanted to go.

Thank you for the memories, the opportunity and the experience to "row" in your historic mine near the Red River Gorge. I definitely recommend experiencing this for yourself, family and friends 💖💯💥. In fact, I have already suggested this location to another enthusiastic adventure such as myself. Keep up the great...

A unique experience, but not quite a thrill ride. We tried the Gorge Underground kayaking tour and thought it was a cool, one-of-a-kind outing. The underground cave setting is definitely something you don’t see every day, and the glow from the strategically placed LED lights made it viewable. I did have to use my headlamp often as it was quite dark in certain places. Our guide was friendly, informative, and kept the vibe relaxed. He was one of the best tour guides I've had. Friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. That said, the pace was super slow—more of a float than a paddle—and the scenery didn’t change much throughout the tour. If you're expecting an adventurous or physically challenging kayaking experience, this isn't it. The cave itself, while interesting, gets a bit repetitive after a while. It was engaging, but not as exciting as we expected. If you're looking for high adventure, this isn’t it. But if you’re into unique, mellow experiences and don’t mind a laid-back vibe, it’s worth checking out. Overall, it’s a neat outing—especially for families or those looking for a low-key, scenic experience. Just manage your expectations: it’s more about the ambiance than the adventure. Would I recommend it? Yes—but more for the novelty than the thrill.
