We enjoyed this out and back trail. The last section can get quite narrow with overgrowth, so wear pants. Lots of bugs too- we used our repellent wipes and were fine. The mine is cool and there is a huge rock nearby if you want a snack or rest. First part is quite sunny with little respite from the sun. Quite rocky in places, wear your good hiking shoes. If you have an America the Beautiful pass- you get in free.

Great little hike up to the mine. Go a little further for a hiking bonus of seeing the river up close. Memorial Day hiking feels like early spring in Steamboat with remaining snow on the mountains and streams running through the hiking trails. Be prepared to get a little muddy, but you’ll find the views well worth the trip. Plus you get to see an inactive mine… one of the things that makes Colorado so cool. 😎 🌲🏔️🥾

Very gorgeous trail. Lots of up hill but relatively easy! The mine itself was kind of underwhelming but keep going just a little bit to go to the stream to get some good views and a nice place to rest! Our favorite part was when the trail went through a woodsy area it felt like a fairytale!

Awesome hike- uphill right away and then kind of keeps going up and down. You can see the mine and then keep going to the river. Not much shade at the beginning. We saw a moose right off the trail! Nice views and you can see the falls for part of the way. The trailhead is not by the falls trailhead but up a little ways on the street. Parking lot gets full fast! But there are picnic areas at the falls trail...
