Monday 7 August 2023 @ 11pm or so. West Bound Bay Bridge (3 lanes) 2 way traffic. Center Lane CLOSED. An individual with Questionable Driving Skills(?), driving WB. Pulled over on Anne Arundel side just off Bridge. Then activated left turn signal. To reenter WB traffic?, HELL NO! GOING IN WRONG DIRECTION!!! PROCEEDS TO DO A U-TURN! Unfortunately had to back up into EB Traffic to complete turn, IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION! Uh-huh, and some of you Question DROP IN SPEED LIMIT on Entering Bridge. Oh!!! Damn!!! You NEVER NOTICED!!! THE FLASHING LIGHTS with your SPEED.... FAR WORSE on EB US50. FOUR (4) SETS of 40mph Signs, BOTH SIDES of US50EB, SPEED LIMIT DROPS to ☆☆☆ 40mph ☆☆☆ Bridge has a CURVE. RIGHT LANE has Tractor Trailers pulling off for Scales & then Reentering US50EB. It would be a GREAT DAY! IF A TRACTOR TRAILER COULD REENTER @ 25 mph!!! Maybe YOU FOOLS GOING 55 - 65mph in THIS 40mph ZONE, MIGHT do a little Research! Why is the Rear Bumper on a Tractor Trailer called a Mansfield? When was She & others Tragically KILLED?! And her Daughter Boldly moved on in Her Life, Stars on LAW & ORDER. HEY MAYBE ONE of You out there! Could slam into the backend of ??? May 2023 Here i sit broken hearted! Arrived & US50 EB BAY BRIDGE about 2:45am. Not sure what happened, heard two (2) Tractor Trailers involved in a crash. Both Bridges Closed. Hmm, US50 EB speed is 55mph as you approach. EB BAY BRIDGE speed drops to 40MPH. My experience has been, most drivers are in excess of 60mph. Maybe, maybe run several Patrol Units - maybe MSP, AA County, Queen Annes County Sheriff Dept could ALL work together?! Who knows? It was 5:51am and US50 EB opened.
Am i asking too much of my fellow Drivers?! SLOW DOWN on BAY BRIDGES!!! ONLY 4 1/2 MILES LONG. That blinking sign IS YOUR SPEED!!! 65 in a 40mph! If Anything goes WRONG, DO YOU BELIEVE (?) So I wasn’t sure whether to give the bridge a 1 or a 5 for the impression it made on me! Scared the be Jesus outta me. I was traveling with my girls looking at colleges in an RV borrowed from my parents. We took the scenic route along US 1 , 17 and the coastal route from Fl to Mass. on the way back we did too. We came down through coastal Delaware and we were planning to go across the bay to Maryland and Virginia to UVA and then through the Shenandoah. I thought that there was a ferry. Silly me. Until we came to the William Preston Lane Jr bridge! I asked, ugh is there a ferry ? They laughed and said “no the only way across was that bridge or go back. “ We couldn’t go back we had a plan. I was petrified! The girls were too young to drive that RV and the cops weren’t available to drive it so after about 1/2 hour at the convenience store biting my nails I decided to “just do it” !!!! I clenched the wheel vowed my girls to complete silence and started on our way. It was 2 lanes going west and I road the yellow line in both lanes with white knuckles. People were beeping and Im sure very PO’d but I didn’t care. I didn’t care if I got a ticket I just wanted to get to the other side. I stared straight ahead into the sunset with my precious cargo on board. I kept a steady speed and hands glued to the steering wheel. And OMG we made it! I thought that I’d have a heart attack. I was so relieved I didn’t mind the steep incline as we departed the bridge. When we got to the bottom I pulled over and cried. My girls immediately hugged me and cried too. You see I had a phobia of bridges for years and our trip was designed to avoid ALL bridges larger than a creek!!! I had just driven the LARGEST bridge in the world who knew!!! We drove into the sunset singing “ Born to be Wild“ at the top of our lungs! Went to Charlottesville Va that night and stayed for a week. Loved visiting UVA taking the prospective student tour in 100 % weather ! And guess what my girls went to school in Fla! UCF and PBAU . Wouldn’t have given up that trip for anything even crossing...

What a bunch of cry babies on here complaining about this bridge. I live on the Eastern Shore and have driven/rode on it my whole life. Sadly, living on the Eastern shore means you have to travel to get to better shopping or medical care or entertainment. While it is a well known fact to us that live on the Shore to not use that Bridge Fri thru Sat during the months of May thru September, sometimes you do. I adjust accordingly for the moron tourists that come to Ocean City. Sadly, i only live about 30 minutes from OC so I get it whether I like it or not. I live just off of Rt. 50 and it is a nightmare during the summer months to just exist. I have to use RT.50 for 90% of my daily travel and these tourists just about kill you.
The Bay Bridge isn't he problem, the problem is we have become a society that lacks patience and common sense. People wait till the last minute to get over creating bottle neck which in turn causes traffic delays or back ups. It all starts at the Severn River bridge. Here's an idea........stop coming over to the beach! Ocean City is dirty, the beach is dirty and it baffles me why people come here for overpriced hotels along with overpriced...
