Let me be perfectly clear here, the grounds and the lake are beautiful. However that's where things end. The management can't be bothered to clean the campsites in between campers leaving them littered with trash, broken beer bottles, and fishing line complete with hooks. The sites are not maintained, the fire pits are missing grates/grills, the tables are damaged and broken at a number of sites. Furthermore the management can't be bothered to clean and maintain the restrooms and showers. During an extended vacation (3 weeks) the women's restroom was out of soap the entire time, and nearly every day the bathrooms are left in shambles with toilets overflowing, no toilet paper, and broken/out of order doors/shower stalls. The rules are not enforced in the slightest resulting in having to call the ranger when locals are partying on the beach in to the early morning hours with loud music and fire works making it impossible to sleep. Also when you call the ranger they are never close enough to get things handled in a timely manner due to clearly being understaffed. So if you're coming to swim, picnic, or cook out hey have a great time, but if you're looking to camp go elsewhere. Edit to add: I am local I do live close to the area now and it is just how this place...
Read moreAlittle outdated in some areas of the park, but some areas look newer, so perhaps they're in the process of updating more. Unique picnic structures and visitor center from a different Era! Plenty of day use, camping and picnic sites with beautiful lake views. Gorgeous overlook, neat trails, and lots of different wildlife. We seen deer, Canadian geese, and a bull snake this trip, but last trip seen we seen more deer, racoons, and what appeared to be a bobcat. There was a ton of trash left behind though, very sad. Including towels, clothing, shoes, dog toys, tennis balls, footballs, volleyball, soda cans, glass beer bottles, and food wrappers. Of course we came on a Tuesday morning so it's possible that the park crews hadn't made it around to each campsite to clean up. We were surprised to see that you have to pay to reserve the day use areas the same as you would campsites. There's some really beautiful sites though and especially the Lakeview ones. There were several spots to cool off in the water. We will definitely come back to...
Read moreThe week before Thanksgiving, we went for the equestrian camping. There are not very many spots available so make reservations during riding season. There are plenty of picnic tables, a couple are covered. There are uncovered panel stalls set up for 2 horses per spot, I believe. Be aware of countless acorns around the grounds. The lake and park are pretty. Lots of deer, geese and squirrels about. Most of the trails are challenging, muddy with many rocks and boulders of varying sizes. The easiest trail was behind the golf course but it had many holes hidden beneath the leaves. The map provided by the park host was useless. Trails are numbered but not correlated on the map. Perhaps the stables can supply a better map. It was not in operation...
