Beautiful beach! Fresh golden sand literally falls off the towering sandstone cliffs. Fresh springs pour from multiple locations in the rock. The beach is fairly clean and stretches a long way north and south. There's typically plenty of room for setting up a private picnic area that still allows adequate space for others to walk along the riverfront shore. Be cautious of broken glass, especially near fire pits.

There's a wooded area in the sand that provides shade and works perfect for hammocks. The river depth is very shallow and suitable for children to swim.

The cave outside is covered in graffiti, which, unfortunately, seems to get fresh additions every week. The cave inside is covered in soot and graffiti. Eww. You can get a super cool photo standing inside the cave looking out though.

The stairs typically are covered in sand, which can be a little slippery. The area is dog-friendly and was a perfect spot to introduce my puppy to open water.

Love...

To get to the beach and cave, you’ll have to go down a long flight of stairs. To your left will be a fire pit surrounded by trees and foliage. The beach can be accessed by boat as you travel along the St. Croix River a few miles north past the Stillwater bridge. A few steps to the right of the bluff is the Stillwater Cave featuring works of graffiti artists as well as limestone wall carvings. As you walk further, you will encounter a small stream from run off from the upper storm drains that make its way down the river. The sands in the beach are fine and golden. Sometimes, you will find fishers of men hoping for a walleye, muskies, large mouth bass or even a sturgeon! There is parking for those on wheels, and there is also an adjacent walkway to get to...

The cave itself is what you would expect from a cave near in a city. It is plastered with graffiti, the ceiling is covered in soot from fires, there's trash left (booz bottles, fast food rappers, etc.), but no signs of illicit drugs or birth control products. Well, not in the winter at least. It's definitely worth poking your head into during the day, but not worth (or probably safe) for anything beyond that, particularly in summer months, when the 16 to 22 crowd is off...
