The water is warm, even in earlier seasons. The sun warms up the shallow most parts and the water just cooks in the little basin. Lovely place to find wildlife, my best friend and I go every year and rescue the sea life that has washed ashore. This year we came a bit earlier in the season and interrupted mating season for the horseshoe crabs 🤭 that was quite the show.
We found a female horseshoe crab beached during a full moon, so tide wasn’t expected to reach her with the four days they have to survive without water. We dug her up and rescued her.
If you ever find a horseshoe crab on the beach in stone harbor and want to pick it up, the best way is to handle them by the sides of the shell. They are very friendly creatures and won’t pinch you.
They’ll squirm a bit, DO NOT handle horseshoe crabs by the tail. An unfortunate siting this year were many horseshoe crabs torn in half, their torso is very delicate and can separate from their head because of the weight of their shell.
Overall the point is a wonderful place for a nice stroll. The sand is soft and the...
Read moreI have grown up in Stone Harbor every summer of my 53 years of life so far and one of my favorite activities is to go up to the Point and walk the beach area collecting shells, as well as bird watch in the marshes down at the point. It is a very peaceful, serene location with beautiful views of the ocean, the bay, the inlet between Stone Harbor and Wildwood and the perfect place to watch beautiful sunsets. It is the only beach access on the island where you don't have to pay for a beach tag to sit on the beach, however, there is no swimming allowed because there is no lifeguard supervision. It is perfect though for just wading through the shallows as you stroll along the shore. At low tides there is a sandbar that is accessible through about knee deep water that people are known to go out to for little family picnics. I highly recommend visiting Stone Harbor's Point Park whether you are there for a week, a few weeks, the whole summer, or just a quick day trip for those who permanently live...
Read moreI adore this beach. Important: We go on Sundays. The people who visit here are incredibly nice to be around, no one is disruptive or rude. Beach tags for daily are $8 per person; they offer weekly and seasonal too. Lifeguards went off duty at 5p, and they're nice if they need interact with you. There's an ice cream stand by the dunes, $10 minimum for CCs. Most recent trip:We had two pop up tents together, 9 people (two children), food and sodas, and had a great time. Mind, avoid the tree shade in the parking lot by the stone benches. I went for a smoke (not allowed on beach) and got eaten alive by some industrial mosquitos XD. Porta-potties are exceptionally well maintained! Free, but very...
