i was extremely saddened to see the state of most of the animals in this zoo. I was excited to see the Coati but was immediately concerned by the size of the enclosure, lack of items in the enclosure, and state of the animal emotionally and physically. I watched the one small Coati pace back and forth for 5 min, when i got there it was pacing, when i left it was still pacing. While pacing you could see little patches of fur missing on its body and you could see the whites of its eyes. The two black bears are also in a very small enclosure- if you could even call it that, and were clearly very uncomfortable. One black bear was panting very heavily which brings me to the other animals who also seem really hot or uncomfortable in their environment. There were fans facing into a few animals enclosures, these animals would sit in front of the fan or pace in front of the fan and pant. My mom and i kept giving each other looks before pushing my little sister to the next enclosure hoping to find one happy looking animal. It was hard to see the state of some of these animals and it wasnt until after the zoo did i see others agreeing with my same thoughts. I do not believe this is the worst zoo it the world and im not saying this with hatred, more with concern: these animals do not look healthy and bringing kids here and having to answer their curious questions about the animals was not fun, in my experience it was...
ย ย ย Read moreOur class went to the Stone Zoo on a Wednesday morning. We got a free school ticket to cover our entry. We did it online before we got there, and when we got there was no line. You just have to apply 2 weeks early online for a free school ticket, and then you can either print it out or show it on your phone. We got there around 9:30 am, and the whole parking lot was open and there weren't many people inside the zoo at all. It was very accessible for our friends in wheelchairs. But it was a little bit hilly, so for people in manual chairs you have to work hard to push them. Because it was becoming winter time, some of the creatures were away for the cold season. Such as the butterflies, the road runner and some of the reptiles. There still felt like a lot to see though. The customer service was really good at the zoo. We had a zoo employee tell us all about the monkeys. The zoo was very clean, not a lot of trash around. Our favorite parts were the monkeys, the big cats (they came right up to the glass to see us) like the snow leopard and the wolves, and the flamingos. The reptiles were cool, there were many types of frogs. We thought it was really interesting that they had a monkey at the zoo that only had one arm. It was cool to see the way it still moved around so well.
Overall, we felt this trip was both fun, educational, accessible and...
ย ย ย Read morePaid a lot of money to go here at the door for 2 adults around 46 dollars. when we walked in there was only a few animals and it took 5 minutes to see the entire zoo most exhibits were closed and had construction going on in pathway. We went early and it was busy with lots of families so I figured before entering it would be a great experience. I was so wrong. If would of been acceptable if the price was like 10 or 15 dollars, I can understand the cost of the animals and staff but there were more animals outside of the zoo than inside. Maybe if they said ahead of time that most animals are not in the enclosures so I had a choice to pay the hefty price but I felt duped when I got inside and my husband and I just looked at eachother rather shocked followed by immediate anger. I have video of the experience to prove this but half way in my filming live on Facebook I had to apologize to people viewing and say sorry no animals here just empty cage after empty cage. Ths signs you pass say there are wolves and a sloth but sadly no. Maybe it was the wrong time of year to go but don't be open and charge full price for false advertising. So I suggest go at your own risk and good luck I doubt I will be back...
