Emily’s Covered Bridge in Stowe, VT is no ordinary bridge. Granted, it’s a covered bridge that has charm and mystery about it as much as the other hundreds of covered bridges that New England is famous for, only Emily’s Bridge has far more mystery than charm. Stories swirling around this particular bridge could be the basis for a good horror movie or a TV series. For all appearances, the bridge looks normal. It’s just another bridge on a brook that was built in the 19th century. But the first clue that something isn’t typical about this bridge is right in the name. Who’s Emily? Because the official name of the bridge is the Gold Brook Covered Bridge. So, what did Emily do to get the bridge named after her?

EMILY’S BROKEN HEART Built in 1844, Emily’s Bridge in Stowe Vermont was just 50 feet long over Gold Brook and was covered with dark wood that the elements haven’t been merciful on ever since. But around the time the bridge was built that dark wood was still new, smelling of fresh pine, and creaked every time a horse-drawn wagon crossed it. A young woman named Emily planned to elope with her love. Their meeting place was this same bridge. But when he didn’t show, Emily, filled with despair, hanged herself from the rafters of the Gold Brook Bridge. A sad story indeed, and anyone who hears it for the first time feels sorry for young Emily and her broken heart. Only Emily wasn’t finished with the bridge just yet. This information was taken from the internet. You can google for more of this story along with other options to how she...

The Historic Gold Brook Covered Bridge, also known as “Emily’s Bridge,” is one of Vermont’s most charming and mysterious landmarks. Nestled in a peaceful, tree-lined setting near Stowe, this beautiful wooden bridge feels like a step back in time. The craftsmanship is stunning — the old timbers, rustic trusses, and weathered boards tell stories of generations past.

During the day, sunlight filters softly through the gaps, creating a warm, nostalgic glow perfect for photography or a quiet walk. The surrounding nature adds to its serene beauty, especially in autumn when colorful leaves blanket the road and trees reflect their golden hues. It’s a lovely place for travelers, couples, and history enthusiasts to pause and take in the tranquil scenery.

However, what truly sets Gold Brook Bridge apart is its legend. Locals call it “Emily’s Bridge,” named after a ghostly tale that adds a touch of mystery to its charm. Whether you believe in the story or not, it gives the site a unique, haunting appeal.

Overall, this bridge is a wonderful mix of natural beauty, local history, and folklore. A must-visit stop for anyone exploring Vermont’s countryside and a perfect spot to capture peaceful, timeless...

My family and I were in Vermont last week and decided to stop here after I found this online. Well, needless to say I have no idea what in the world are on my pictures but my husband and son claim to see something there(I am skeptical about what they see)... We visited twice, first at night and we didn't even get out of the car since It was way too dark and gloomy! The next day we went and what a complete difference! It's a beautiful location by day. Nice river running under and tranquil location. I would never return at night; it just feels so scary for a city girl lol. I am posting some pictures and I'll let you guys be the judge. Please feel free to let me know if you see something "out of the ordinary". The first picture is just a zoomed in picture of the 3rd one. On the third one my husband sees something on the right side if you zoom in. The second picture is just a zoomed in picture of what I would say is the road.... Interesting location depending what time of day or...

When My Friend & I were there, we got a good look around .. We definitely would have noticed this Rope hanging on the Rafter. It wasn't there in person, But it showed up in the Photo! Same with the Face I caught multiple times! But, I also had a dream where a Girl Named Emily came to me and told me to warn people not to go there, and then I woke up with scratch marks. So, I'm not sure what that's about. Maybe a coincidental dream? Or maybe it's something we shouldn't ignore? Up to you to decide! :) Other than the hauntings this bridge brings you, it's a beautiful area with a loud sound of waves crashing into rocks, but be careful visiting because there's a blind area where cars entering the Bridge won't see you, and there wouldn't be much space between you and that Vehicle!
