An once awesome resource that is sadly changing and becoming less welcoming.
SHP was once a place for residents and folks from surrounding communities but out of town visitors are restricted from certain parking. It's getting more dog unfriendly. Mountain bike ruts and erosion sadly ruining a lot of the back trails. Mountain bikers with obnoxious amount of lights driving around blinding as they nearly run you over. They promote a lot of events that encourages over use of the resources.
They do love their signs. The number of signs telling you what to do has increased dramatically. Not the vibe you are going for when walking in woods.
SHP 5 years ago was my number one go to spot. It's pretty and the trails are cool, don't get me wrong. Now, I skip it for something more off the beaten path with friendlier people. It's good for community events but there are better places to get out in the local area if you want to walk in nature.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a mountain biker from Massachusetts who just moved to town loves it but not for me and I'm not alone in my feelings (bring up the topic on "Stratham Talks" FB page and it will generate some pretty...
Read moreSo many trees and dirt! My dog loves it here, I am sure you and your wonderful family will love it here too! My dog loves everything though, so don't take his word for it. I am sure that he is a bit of a liar as well. Not in a bad way, but in a people pleaser type of way. You know? I am personally not a people pleaser, but I sometimes wish I was. My mother raised me to value my opinions and preferences as much as those around me. Which is of course very important, and I appreciate her efforts greatly. However, sometimes I feel that my incapabilities not to people please makes it so that I seem unlikeable, or selfish. When I take a walk in this park, I feel all my personal qualms dissipate. I see the way that nature continues on without me, seasons change even through my turbulent thoughts. In the spring I watch the flowers in the field blossom, white and bountiful, before multiplying in the summer, to die in the fall, to be covered up by fresh white snow in the winter. In all four seasons, this little piece of paradise in suburbia is...
Read moreI remember walking the trails and sledding here when I was a kid, long before the tornado nearly destroyed the park and killed a small group of people. The park looks better and is well maintained. I haven't had a chance to walk the trails, but, the play area for kids and the covered picnic table area are great additions. The Stratam Hill Fair is nice. I'm glad it has reopened! Update: Saturday afternoon, November 2021; I walked part of Eagle 🦅 trail that led to Stratam Hill and the observation tower 🗼. If you start Eagle 🦅 trail from the parking 🅿️ lot, that section of the trail is not 🚫 accessable to wheelchairs or regular strollers. The trail towards Stratam Hill and the observation tower is not wheelchair accessible. How to describe the views from the Hill and tower 🗼, WOW 😳! You can see so much on a clear day! Is that MT. Washington? History is marked on one trail. Benches and porta potties available. Baseball ⚾ field, war memorials, 🗺️ maps, exercise stops and emergency areas are part of the park 🏞️. I...
