visited Sturgis a few weeks before the annual Motorcycle Rally. It was a very quiet small town and I enjoyed walking around the downtown area before making my way out to the Museum at Fort Meade. The museum is housed in one of the Old Fort’s Building and cost $5.00 for the self-guided tour. It took me a while to make it through the museum as I am a reader and the amount of information provided is outstanding. The exhibits are well displayed, and the staff is readily available to answer questions. On the drive out I did find the signs to be a little confusing. In order visit the Museum you must use the Medical Center Gate. Some items just don't belong there, like a bicycle of some 101 yr old man. The last directional sign to the museum location was hidden behind an overgrown bush. Read moreThis museum is amazing! I loved all the information and artifacts. I wasn't able to explore the entire museum, I only had about 45 minutes, so I will definitely be back! Apparently this is where the idea to make the Star Spangled Banner the national anthem was born!
Its definitely not a museum where kids have things to interact with, but if your kids enjoy reading and looking at displays they'll have a great time.
