This is a little park near John's Mountain in Rome, Georgia. It has a nice but small wading creek, camping areas, picnic areas, and hiking. *There is a $5 park entrance fee.
This park has bathrooms that are wheelchair accessible.
The wading creek is an ideal spot for children to play in or even leashed dogs.
They have nice camping areas that cost $15 a day unless you have the Interagency Pass which gives you a 50% discount. The same goes for the daily $5 fee. *They also have a designated camping area for disabled and handicapped only.
We visited, because we wanted to do the nature trail. I must say, I was a bit disappointed. The trails are very narrow in some places, and with there being Poison Ivy in many different spots along the trail, we were constantly watching where we were walking. This took a lot of fun away from the walk, because, when looking down so much, you miss the beauty that surrounds you.
The trail is also not well maintained in some places. Sometimes, brush was hitting us on both sides of our legs where the trail was not mowed or even bush hogged. We didn't even try to do the 2.5 mile, because we thought the trail would be even worse than the short one. *Since there is a $5 fee to enter this park, this trail should be better maintained.
There is also a lot of missing nature signage on the trail. Most signs were either damaged or vandalized. This is a shame. Again, someone needs to fix these - especially when you must pay the $5 entrance fee. *The trail, however, does have very good markings on where to go next.
About midway, on the short trail, their is an aquatic viewing area. We heard what sounded like a big beaver walking about and flapping it's tail along the water's edge. We will never know for certain, because the brush was so overgrown. *This was not a viewing area at all.
We did see an owl on the trail which was exciting, as well as some small fish and frogs. That was about it for wildlife. We did see some fresh blackberries, lots of pretty foilage, and wildflowers.
The trail is mostly flat - making it an easy hike with the exception of the badly maintained trails.
Oh, and before ending this review - do a tick check when you get home. We did find one on us.
Overall, if I had children or a dog and utilized the wading creek, I would have rated this park a "4", but since we went for the trails, it gets a "3". I'm glad I can check it off my list of places to see, but we will not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe water is super cold and refreshing!! Very beautiful place to enjoy your weekend! how ever the man who checks your cars to make sure you pay you 5.00 parking was kind of rude. Said that we did not pay and I knew my partner had specifically paid! Walking back from the vehicle to get drinks for my kids he stopped me and insisted I needed to pay I told him we hung our tag in the window he said I put that there you haven't paid so I had to make my partner wall all the way back up to the front to prove he paid his little 5.00 Parking fee..... I just didnt think that was necessary maybe if he would have actually paid attention he would have been actually doing his job instead of trying to waste and or ruin the time we were having. Besides that all was...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePay close attentionā¦this place speeds up time. You show up at 7AM and set up your picnic for breakfast and lunch and itās almost time for dinner. I can not explain it better than that. You honest to āinsert your higher power hereā will wonder what happened to your day? It is a magical place for children who enjoy trails or creeks to play. Be aware that 99.9% of dogs will not be on leashes and that may or may not be an issue. Also note that this place gets crowded with children celebrating being outside. Just a nice get away. $5 to park but it has not been enforced on my dozen visits or so. Shame because one weekend worth of fees would pay to have the grounds around the spring house perfected. Go...
