Great experience, met the owner Mrs. Mnich a really amazing person she loves animals soooo much itās crazy.
An alpaca gave birth in the middle of the tour and she went into full Mama mode she sprinted to the mother giving birth and helped deliver the baby alpaca, I think she said itās called a cria not sure never heard that word before. Sheās super knowledgeable about the animals.
She turned the tour over to her farm manager Smithy who was pretty awesome. He gave us a bag of feed for the animals mainly the alpacas. The alpacas are very friendly. We were able to feed them, they ate from our hands.
Smithy took us to an area called Chicken Village. Itās so cool. Thereās about 12 little homes called hutchās where the chickens live. Smithy caught one which was amazing and he explained the males from the females and how they can estimate the age of roosters looking at the spurs. Yes, chickens have spurs, theyāre like an extra toe/ claw that pokes out mid ankle.
There was a turkey in the midst called Tom heās huge! He has the most beautiful feathers and a blue face. We learned, apparently chickens and turkeys should not live together. They both have a bacteria of some sort, thatās bad for humans! So the chickens that live with Tom are only for eggs.
Learned that eggs come in all sorts of colors and sizes. It doesnāt mean an egg is good or bad. All of the animals are free range and have the opportunity to walk around and do what they want. Itās not like a mass produced chicken farm where theyāre all in cages waiting to be slaughtered. In fact animals on the farm arenāt for slaughtering. Which is really nice, theyāre just too nice to end up on a plate.
We saw Morty, whoās known as the farm unicorn. Heās soooo fat lol, we were told heās a pot belly pig which is actually the name of the breed. He totally has a pot belly.
Thereās a small heard of sheep, and they can totally stampede. Went to pet one and when one took off, everyone did. However we met Bane a ram and Mary the mama sheep who were friendly enough to pet. She had twins who were very curious, they were really cute.
When the tour ends you have the opportunity to visit theyāre boutique. Thereās a large variety of awesome finds to buy. Made with Alpaca fibers or hair. Thatās the main reason for having alpacas. I got some socks, some soaps wrapped in alpaca fibers for exfoliating, some dryer balls, shoe liners, and a beanie all made with alpaca fibers and they feel amazing the prices are definitely affordable. I had no idea you can make so many things out of alpaca fibers.
They have fresh honey, Mrs. Mnichās son Jake started Jakeās Bees Honey. It tastes amazing, we learned a fun fact bee honey can be darker or lighter depending on the time of year you harvest honey. I had no idea! Itās for sale about $12 for the pound you must get some.
They also sell eggs, which taste completely different than store bought eggs and they donāt make me bloated either. There truly is a difference between the mass produced eggs and free ranged eggs. You gotta try it!
Overall a great experience for families. The tour is free so itās extremely affordable. Thereās no pressure to buy anything which is good but thereās also so many cool items you canāt help yourself. I definitely recommend Roaring Acres youāre Alpacas for everyone and their family. Itās much better than going to a zoo. The animals arenāt just for amusement, they all seem very well taken cared of and happy.
Oh I forgot they have ducks too, that donāt fly south for the winter because thereās no need they are both safe and fed well. So they wonāt leave. Please check them out itās definitely worth...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stayed here this past weekend in our 26' travel trailer through Harvest Hosts.
We had great communication with the host and when we arrived we were met by the caretakers James and Myla. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming!
Our kids enjoyed exploring the farm, which the hosts were very receptive to. They were also very welcoming of our 2 dogs, who stay leashed.
As soon as we arrived James showed us where to park and even offered to help back us up if we needed it. There was ample space for several rigs. We parked on crushed stone site, which even with severe thunderstorms didn't get musher under our camper.
We checked out their boutique shop and got our youngest an alpaca fiber stuffed alpaca for her birthday - it is so incredibly soft and beautiful. We also got some of their honey, along with the ever-important sticker for our sticker board.
After the store we were able to go and feed the alpacas, meet the pigs, cows, mini ponies, chickens, ducks, etc. This place is GEM and we hope we'll be able to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe enjoyed our visit to the farm. There was a $5 entrance fee which includes a bag of feed. Before entering the fenced in area staff gave us instructions as to what to expect and how we should interact with the animals. There was staff inside the fenced area and were available to answer any questions. The alpacas and chickens roam freely. We saw huge pigs, a cow, a goat and ducks. We visited the store where they had all kinds of alpaca fur made clothing, toys and books. We will definitely go back, it...
