The trail across the creek is currently closed as of July 2023. There's a missing trail marker along the Green trail, stay left at fork. The righthand trail connects to the Orange trail. Other trail forks were well-marked.
This was a great park with lots of visitors. The trails were well maintained and easily traversible. They are valued by local jogging groups so they are well-kept. There are several trail systems of different lengths through a diversity of habitats. I would recommend this park to anyone visiting the area.
There are seperate horseback trails. Water fountains and a restroom building are convenient at the main trailhead. There is a paved parking lot and a wheel-chair accessible paved trail loop (it goes through unshaded prarie so take care during hot conditions). The picnic shelter must be reserved. Park services phone numbers were responsive...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis used to be a great park years ago. It was well maintained (leveled out, crush and run on the trails, vegetation kept down), but now if it rains a little it's a mud pit for days. The only maintenance on trails is cutting down fallen trees. How is that well maintained (like some other reviews mention)? On top of that it is extremely crowded at almost all times (thanks COVID) and you're likely to find paths blocked with people with double walking sticks refusing to let anyone by, pass, etc. It started going downhill when they doubled the size of the parking lot (which was rarely filled even back then). There is even a sign saying "please pass single file", but either the people that go here can't read, or they don't care. There are far better parks...

The start is on a single, paved path that leads to a shelter with picnic tables and a place for kids to play. Once back there you get several trail options, from a short paved one to dirt paths a few miles long. Took the orange trail, which goes through a tunnel of osage orange trees. Trails were wide and well marked, and while I was maybe a week too late to get the spectacular views, it was still impressive to go through that tunnel and look at the valley a bit further along. Thereās even places to sit at scenic spots, and porch swings at the prairie
It turns out the reason for such high activity at a normally quiet time of day is that this...
