Went up to NE Texas from New Orleans, LA for the eclipse. Found Cooper Lake right in center path of totality. We stayed in Jefferson, TX. Cool little historic town. About 90-min drive to the park. The park rangers and the park itself were fantastic. Beautiful place. Great facilities and the Park Rangers were terrific. Handled the crowds with ease and had games for the kids, extra eclipse glasses for visitors, even telescopes outfitted for the eclipse. Really great experience and wonderful time at Cooper Lake. We camped here last weekend and loved it. We stayed in the primitive area, which isn’t all that primitive, for better or worse. There’s a water spigot close by and a restroom within a short walk. The sites are right on the lake, too, so you hear and see the water, which is lovely. We hiked the bluestem and lonesome dove trails. They were a bit muddy in parts but still doable. The trail markings are a B-minus, so make sure you have your map and pay attention. We’ve already reserved a site for next spring, so a big thumbs up from the...

Get a pull through site if you can as they were the most even as well as usually offering direct access to the lake. Some of the sites can be a bit muddy but not terrible. Usually pretty quite. There is also an excellent Italian restaurant in Sulphur Springs called Romas if you want a nice...
