Kirkwood Winery & Isaiah Morgan Distillery — Attraction in Summersville

Reading the reviews, I almost thought we were in the wrong place. I do agree with everyone that these are very friendly folks, no doubt. But, when I asked questions about what I was reading on the labels, the man at the counter couldn't answer. We didn't ask for a tasting nor was there any indication they even did that but I felt we'd have little help sorting through the wines on our own anyway. There are a great many fruit wines mostly, but not all. Still, I wanted to try something so I chose a mead and an elderberry wine based on the reviews I read. Surely there is more to this winery than met our eye but I won't know until we get the wine home. I'm hoping the very friendly folks will translate...

Visited on a whim with some friends during our New Years trip to Summersville and had an amazing time. Christopher gave us a great wine tasting of as many of Kirkwoods' wines as we wanted and they were delicious. We are a wine-savvy crew and have been to several wineries before and this one had the most unique flavors we had experienced before - spiced apple, winesap apple. moonglow pear. We really appreciated the hospitality and the education into how the wines are made and what foods they pair well with. Stopped here during vacation and did a taste tasting and enjoyed everything. Bought some bottles and loved everything that we went back two days later to stock up even more to bring back home with us to wisconsin. Highly recommend trying and buying some of their wines. We even did a tasting of their bourbon and that's highly recommended too. We're highly impressed with how good this wine and bourbon is for them making it out of a closet. We will definitely be ordering some more of their wines online and having them shipped to us. Because what we bought in person isn't going to...
