My daughter's wedding was at the Confluence Resort this weekend. The venue is absolutely breathtaking. There is a beautiful walk path that leads down to a scenic overlook of the river. It is picturesque in any season, but is extremely beautiful in the fall setting that the wedding was held. We had come to the Confluence Resort early in the year during the winter season. It was mild weather at the time and we were given a tour by the owner, Pervis Major. We toured each of the beautiful homes that are available for anyone that wishes to rent them for an event or wedding. We also toured the area with the nice barn that has a game area and seating for people wishing to relax after a wedding or event, there is a very large pavilion with electrical connections in you wish to play music or any devices you wish to use, also there is a grill if you want to utilize it. There is also a very nice area that has a fire ring that is great for a bonfire or warming up with. The grounds also have a pond and benches to relax on and watch a sunset if you wish. The owner also has available a very large and extremely nice party tent that worked great for our reception. It held over 80 guests very comfortably, not counting the DJ and his crew, the caterer as well as the staff of the resort. The tent is available with a stand for the DJ, and area for serving your buffet, a large dance floor, an area for the sweetheart table for the bride and groom, a large gift table and as we had requested, a table to be used as a memory table of our family members that had passed away. We were allowed to decorate the tent as we wished with any furniture, lights, and party favors we wished. We also decorated the entire overlook area to the bride and groom's wedding theme. Any items we didn't have and needed, Pervis Major was there to assist in any way. He even found us some blocks of wood and bales of hay to put some pumpkins on for the decorations. We rented the Patterson House for the wedding party to stay in during the weekend. This home is wonderful. It is very apportioned and roomy. It has a very relaxing atmosphere as well. Especially the sun room with the wonderful views of the entire property. There were no details that were too big or small that the staff or Pervis wouldn't assist with. Anytime there was a moment of panic, Pervis would come to the rescue and assure everyone calmly that would be taken care of. We had a moment where the wedding party was at the overlook where the ceremony was being held and the wedding rings weren't there yet and it was almost time for the bride to arrive. Pervis got the ring box that was especially made for the ceremony as well as the rings and took them to the overlook. He assisted in every detail and made sure that everyone was delivered to and from the overlook on time. He also directed the DJ on the overlook as to when to start each song and when each member of the wedding party was to enter the overlook. Pervis was there from early in the morning of the event and was there until the last person left, always making sure that every detail was taken care of or to see if anything was needed or requested. If there is such as thing as a low stress wedding, this was it. Just knowing that Pervis and his staff were always on hand to see to any needs we had was assuring. I have no regrets in having my daughter's dream wedding at The Confluence Resort. I highly recommend anyone planning a wedding to make an appointment to tour this wonderful venue and talk to Mr. Major. If you do your research on other venues, you will see as I did, other venues require rented restrooms, rented tents, rented tables, chairs, linens, and some even require to have a wedding planner hired if you use their specific venue. This resort is all inclusive! Lifetime memories were made at my daughter's dream wedding, thanks to the wonderful staff of The Confluence Resort and...
Read moreI cannot recommend The Confluence with enough enthusiasm. This location, the quality of the venue, the staff (especially Amy), and the convenience of everything they provided was spectacular. The beauty of the location speaks for itself, but what made our wedding special was really the venue and Amy’s professionalism, kindness, and incredible amount of hard work. Sure, it takes a lot of planning and preparation on your part to pull off a great wedding, but not all of that is the responsibility of any venue. Everyone was so understanding, flexible, and helpful. The depth of what they provided was so convenient. I can’t imagine a better place to get married.
Our contract, and our calls and meetings made well in advance with Pervis, Amy, the florist, and caterer, let us know exactly what to expect and how to prepare. You should take the necessary time to fully understand what you will need. I would think this goes without saying, but like almost literally any wedding venue, you should plan to arrange for the reception and ceremony site to be decorated according to your preferences—including decorative tablecloths if you want them and your choice of tableware. It wasn’t a problem at all. Pervis and Amy gave us access to the venue nearly 36 hours ahead of time, which is nearly unheard of.
Our caterer had no problem pulling off what many people said was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding. Yes, the kitchen area is not a full-service working kitchen. But again… if you look at it at any point ahead of your wedding day, you would know that and be prepared. Pervis’ recommended caterers are all very familiar with the venue. We got several quotes, and all the caterers had no problem with the kitchen.
Frankly, Amy worked her absolute tail off. We could not have done this without her—she is what really made the wedding great. She worked extra hours before the wedding to accommodate our rehearsal dinner at the venue site. She was there early on the wedding day and filled in with prep work when our caterer was an hour late. She organized our rehearsal and the ceremony itself, which she ran like a well-oiled machine to perfection. She was there early on the day after the wedding and helped us tremendously with cleanup. And most of all, weddings are a lot of work and stressful for everyone. Amy’s professionalism and experience was a calming force. She was so kind, understanding, and hard working. We will remember her with appreciation forever for making our day so wonderful. It is unfathomable to me that anyone could walk away from an event with Amy and think anything else.
The wedding hall is not enormous. But Pervis and Amy made it perfectly clear well ahead of time that 200 people would make the reception very crowded. That should be obvious to anyone who stepped into the wedding hall and took a moment to think about it. We had 100ish people, the DJ and dance floor, a buffet, desert table, and full bar. There was plenty of room, and we probably could have had 25-30 more people without any noticeable change in the amount of space.
We don’t have a single negative thing to say about the Confluence. Our guests loved it. The cabins were perfect and incredibly convenient. The venue was beautiful. The fire pit area was so much fun and a great little extra perk. It was the...

Venue: The Confluence Resort in Hico, WV.
The Confluence Resort is on a beautiful piece of property. The reception hall and cabins are gorgeous. The venue can easily be described as picturesque. Unfortunately, there is a long list of grievances that covers almost every other aspect of the experience. To start, you are responsible for providing everything for the reception except for tables and chairs. While the hall does have a kitchen area, you will only find a small fridge, a sink (well water on tap) and an ice machine. All dinnerware, drinking water, chair covers and table cloths must be provided by the renters. The renters are also responsible for setting up everything in the reception hall, except for table and chair placement. The venue says they provide table cloths, but the cloths they had were wrinkled and stained. The coordinator employed by the Confluence Resort, Amy, stated that the table cloths they provide are typically used underneath the linens that the renters provide. That was not communicated to us prior to the day of set up or we would have provided our own. The set up felt rushed and it seemed as though Amy wanted to do the bare minimum. Speaking of the bare minimum, the bridal cabin did not have a working refrigerator for the entirety of our stay. There was one attempt at a solution, which included bringing a new refrigerator in two days after our initial complaint. The new refrigerator did not work either. At that point, we were provided with a cooler full of ice for the remainder of our time there.
When confronted about the lack of communication, Amy provided excuses that seemed inappropriate for an impersonal relationship. At one point, Amy told our hired coordinator that she did not have an emotional connection to our wedding and because it was the last wedding of the season, she did not care how it went. The poor quality and lack of communication had an adverse effect on the overall experience. Our contract stated that the hall could accommodate up to 200 people. However, that was not the case. The owner of the Confluence Resort, Pervis, stated in an email one month prior to the wedding day that the maximum amount of people was actually 150, despite the agreed upon contract. Both Amy and Jim the property manager were rude, insensitive and lacked personal and social skills. The poor behavior and horrendous attitudes of both Jim and Amy towards our family, our coordinator and our guests were absolutely unacceptable.
Overall, the physical location and buildings were great, but the Confluence Resort was...
