Our recent visit to Givhans was an unforgettable experience, marking it as the most beautiful park I’ve ever seen. Nestled in a picturesque setting, this park offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational activities that cater to all ages.
Scenery and Atmosphere: From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning scenery. The park is a haven of tranquility, with lush greenery, towering trees, and vibrant flowers that create a serene and inviting atmosphere. The flowing river that winds through the park is nothing short of incredible, adding a sense of calm and beauty to the landscape. Its gentle murmur provided a soothing backdrop to our day, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and reflection.
Activities: The park offers a variety of activities that kept our whole family entertained. My kids were thrilled with the small playground, which is well-maintained and equipped with fun and safe equipment. They spent hours climbing, sliding, and making new friends. Meanwhile, grandad had a wonderful time by the river with his fishing pole. The river is not only beautiful to look at but also teeming with fish, making it an ideal spot for both amateur and experienced anglers.
For those who enjoy hiking, the park features a mile-long trail that meanders through some of the most scenic parts of the area. The trail is easy to navigate and offers breathtaking views at every turn. Whether you’re an avid hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, this trail is a must-experience.
Amenities: One of the standout features of the park is its overnight camping section. The camping area is well-equipped with all the necessary amenities, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The sites are spacious, offering a good mix of privacy and convenience, with easy access to restrooms and showers. Camping under the stars in such a beautiful setting was an experience we’ll cherish for a long time.
Overall Experience: Our visit to [Park Name] was truly memorable. The park's natural beauty, combined with its excellent amenities and range of activities, makes it a perfect destination for families and nature lovers alike. The flowing river, the joy on my kids' faces at the playground, grandad's successful fishing trip, and the scenic hiking trail all contributed to an exceptional day out. We’re already planning our next visit and can’t wait to explore more of what this stunning park has to...
Read moreLove this little park situated on the Edisto river. The staff that I met, Brandon and Steve, are exceptionally helpful, friendly and quite knowledgeable. We have a 44' fifth wheel pulled by a Ram 3500 Mega Cab and had no problems getting to the park and set up on our site.
Our site was plenty of long enough for our RV and we parked the truck along the front parallel with the road. We enjoyed quiet neighbors and had plenty of space between us and them.
The trails around the park are easy to moderate and you can bike them but be aware there are sections where you'll have to carry or push your bike (up steps and at the very narrow trail that overlooks the river).
We loved being somewhat close to Charleston and enjoyed brunch and a history stroll while we were camped. Hubs also enjoyed taking a swim in the river right off the park beach. I don't enjoy swimming where I can't see my feet. He said the current was pretty swift so watch your kids carefully! We also LOVED kayaking with Edisto River Adventures. Highly recommend them if you want to take a trip down the river.
A big drawback for us: the only WiFi available was at the park office. Yes, we were camping but hubs works full time from "home" so WiFi is imperative. We use Verizon and the signal inside the camping loop is almost non-existent. However, the open field behind the camping loop has excellent Verizon coverage. The WiFi antennae we have on our RV boosted the signal enough for hubs to get some work done. We did burn through a whole LOT of data though.
The only other drawback was the mosquitoes! We were there in June and after dark or in the trees, even the deet we applied didn't seem to affect them. It was like some sort of condiment that made us more delicious.
Bottom line: Givhan's Ferry State Park is high on our list to revisit. I highly...

Nice small park. Stayed in one of the full-hookup sites, but not very private. The spots are level and are packed sand/dirt. One hour from Charleston and about 20-30min to the closest town for supplies, however there are two small convenience stores that are literally near the park gate. The park features a 1.5 nature trail, access to Edisto River, a small cemetery, a couple of limestone sinkholes (gated off) and a resident hawk. The large field in front of the nature trail (where the volleyball court is) seems to be this hawk's hunting ground. Bring a camera! We didn't use the showers, but they appear to be adequate.
The state park staff is awesome! However, the campground host in #1, the Julian's from New York, was not professional. I returned home from grocery shopping and I have always been careful with my speed in campgrounds, however, pulling into the campground I was probably going a little faster than normal. Perhaps 8mph, instead of 5mph. I get out of my car and the host yells (actually yells!!) very unprofessionally at me like I committed a murder. Or like he was scolding a child. I felt very put down by this individual. I politely said I was sorry. I really had NO IDEA I was going so "fast". He needs a course in public relations. How to talk to to people like they are actually people. The park is great, but this encounter left me with a bad memory. Hence, the 3-stars. Never returning.
Also, with a booster I received 4-5 bars with T-Mobile. Verzion bars were boosted to 2. Good enough for streaming, Skype, email, and calls. If you don't have a cell phone...
